Freshly discharged from the army and on his way to a better future, Sonny (James Franco) stops by his home in New Orleans and visits the bordello run by his mother. Jewel (Brenda Blethyn), domineering, tough and painfully in need of her sons love and labour, runs a whorehouse in the French Quarter. Her looks have faded, but her will to survive has not. Her prized new attraction is Carol (Mena Suvari), a pretty and fresh young hooker who fetches good money, but whos looking to get out of the life. Carol takes an immediate interest in handsome Sonny and begs him to take her away. Despite Jewels pleadings, Sonny wants to leave the town and the trade.

Nic Cage’s Masterpiece
This is the only movie Nicolas Cage has directed and he did a stellar job! The movie is bold and thought provoking. It’s has outstanding characters and performances. It’s intense but brilliant. Highly recommend it!
