This is the worst design for an auto belt tensioner I have ever come across. If you get 50,000kms out of one before failure it's doing well. The rubber in which the spindle of the tensioner pulley is mounted in is not robust enough for purpose. The tension on the belt loads the spindle which starts to sit at an angle. This continues to worsen until the pulley is so out of line the belt fails.
