The lexa 400 is powerful reel. 25lb of drag may be an overkill. However, if you plan on 100lb topshot , it can be of use. In my case, I filled with 65lb spectra with 100 yds of 30lb mono. Easy landed 25 to 30lb tuna. Casting is smooth and long. In addition, I tried live bait fishing and the only complaint I have is it does not have clicker, that would be very useful if you have an aggressive larger model grab your bait and runs. Thumbing spectra, can burn. In conclusion, I would still recommend the lexa. Lighter and just as powerful as some 4/0 and 5/0 reels.

I sold my cod fishing pole and two speed reel since I do not go cod fishing any more. The fishery was closed due to poor amounts of cod, and both the commercial guys and the private fisherman continued to ignore the cod stocks. I sold my rig on line and met the gentleman at Cabella's, and went inside to look at a good salt water reel that could stand up to fluke fishing in 20 feet of water to 150 feet of water. I like this reel as soon as I picked it up, but thought I could get a better price if I went on line than buying it here, at this store. This reel and I caught a lot of summer flounder-(fluke). I spooled it with 30# tuff-line and I could feel what kind of structure I fishing over. I dropped the rod and reel over board this past August while out on a charter boat, my hands were slippery and I was fishing for fluke, sea bass, and many other ground fish. I was attempting to change hands and the pole slipped and went into Long Island Sound. I got home and immediately ordered this same reel and a different rod on line. It's that good a reel. I love this reel very much, but the rod I ordered was not to my liking and purchased one at a discount store that had a great price on the rod. I hoped this will help.Read full review

Smooth in operation and reliable. Not the best reel on the market but by the best value for a large bait caster on the market. The additional cost to step up to the other brands does not result in an equal level of increased performance. Best performance to cost ratio in this size of reel. I typically use it for throwing larger bucktails (double 10 and double 12 blades) and/or larger glide or crank baits in the late summer or early fall.

I bought this reel because I wanted a low profile design that could handle the load of winching Double-10's and also provide the speed to be able to burn some lures if I wanted to. This reel worked excellently. I chose it over the Abu Garcia Revo Winch (NaCL) and the Shimano Curado as I did not want the low gear ratio only that comes with those reels. I also was not going to pay for a Tranx which I personally do not think has that much over this reel. This reel has a tremendous amount of line pick-up. Great reel for a great price, worked flawlessly with all types of Musky lures.

8.5 to 9' rods recommended to cast 4oz lures 85 yds, tested on bluefin up to 80lbs personally with 65 lb braid tiresome but doable, very strong cast ability, for the price it's the best reel n it's category, the shimano counterpart is over double the cost n the only advantage I see is it holds more line
