Like its larger predecessor, it’s loaded with the silicon BC-108 transistor for a round and dirty crunch. Use the Buffer switch on the side to make the fuzz play nice with wah pedals. only Fed Ex.
Everyone knows this is just a silicone fuzz face with an added input buffer, but that happens to be enough in this case. It's a tried and true formula in front of a good tube amp especially with single coils. Just like the standard green overdrive, this is proof that cookie cutter circuits can be just as good as (if not sometimes better than) the boutique pedals that are just modified versions of it anyway.
Many people claim to prefer germanium transistors (though I question whether most would know the difference hearing which buzz words they use to describe germanium).
I prefer silicone. I don't have to worry about a three degree change in temperature turning heaven into aft waste.
Is it the best sound in the world? No, but I know exactly what sound to expect from it every time I plug into it. Plus, (to be fair) ot is a good sound.
Easy to use, consistent, good sounding, etc. What's not to like?
I can't see anyone being disappointed with this pedal. It's the same circuit as the Dunlop Hendrix mini fuzz face of the same color, though, this mini pedal has the added buffer to work better with wahs, humbuckers, and other effects. Just a strat and this pedal into a cheap 15 watt practice amp was oh yeah! Like the kool-aid guy breaking threw a brick wall.
A very nice silicon fuzz circuit in the classic sense, the small foot print is a welcome change from the previous big box version when fitting it on an all ready crowded pedal board. Probably my favourite modern feature of this little growler is the addition of the Bias button that cuts a lot of the noise associated with this type of circuit out.
