  • Somewhere in the Night – Lost In The Mists Of Time

I could not recall hearing of this movie before buying the DVD - its mysterious story and strong cast made me curious and I’m pleased to have caught up with it. It’s good looking Noir with deep shadowy situations and some enigmatic dialogue leading us on a journey of discovery – the discovery of the lead characters forgotten past - a past that tends to play out none too well. The more we learn, the murkier a picture emerges of this haunted fellows earlier life. So bad are his findings even he can’t like himself. A string of assorted people helps open up the trail of shady deals, double-crosses and murder, which litter past indiscretions till the final resolution. While the chosen last scene may not have been the best to end on, putting all the missing pieces together adds up to a lot of stylish entertainment. This nicely produced Fox movie signalled what we might expect to follow this early directorial effort, of noted writer, Joseph Mankiewicz in years to follow. The Fox classic DVD offers first-class quality to make the experience worthwhile.

  • Film Noir at its best.

Love Noir Films, & especially this one with John Hodiak in it. He died suddenly when very young, so any of his movies are precious.
