As a modern desktop system for someone producing non-professionall Audio / Video / or Graphics content, this unit is a good step upwards from a Mac Pro (Late 2013) 6.1 due to its faster speed, and more up-to-date connection ports- not to mention its unified system architecture. [ My previous Mac Pro models (Late 2009 4.1 & Early 2013 6.1) had BOTH been of 32GB system RAM so I judged THIS unit to be a usable replacement. ] Purchasing this unit 18 months after release, a welcome reduction in unit cost ($600 or more) was appreciated, which could accommodate the extra cost for an external drive. However, this unit is even less user-friendly than was the "Trash Can" Mac Pro, due to it being designed to exclude user upgrading inside its case. At least I could install a SSD of greater capacity inside the Mac Pro 6.1 (choosing a Chinese SSD with Mac interface which was One-Third the cost of an Apple product)- while, with this unit one is mainly limited to EXTERNAL drives, when more storage capacity is preferred. In this regard, an external Thunderbolt Drive is the best option (excluding slow-downs in drive access) when one seeks the option of increased digital storage, without submitting to Apple's exorbitant Higher Prices for internally upgraded models.Read full review
