Disaster strikes and the Muppets are caught in the expanses of time, thanks to Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his assistant Beaker. Their newly constructed time machine malfunctioned and hurled most of the Muppet cast back into different time periods. Luckily, Kermit and Animal were late and didn't get thrown back with the others. Both bravely volunteer to travel back in time to save their friends. Now they must rescue Miss Piggy from Egyptian mummies and ancient gods as well as solve challenging puzzles to free Gonzo, Fozzie, Rowlf, Sam the Eagle and even the Swedish Chef! You must outsmart your enemies so that the Muppets can get back on the set with the star guest. The show must go on! Jim Henson's The Muppets takes you on a time-traveling, side-scrolling, single-player adventure into the far reaches of time. Run, jump and climb your way around while gathering paper airplanes and drumsticks to destroy hostile creatures. Each level has you playing as either Kermit or Animal. Kermit uses paper airplanes to shoot at enemies and Animal uses his drumsticks. Each character also has a special move: Kermit can perform a big jump and Animal can stomp. The game automatically saves before you turn off your Game Boy Color, and you can continue at that exact point whenever you select the "resume last game" option from the menu screen. The six time zones in Muppets each has three sub-levels which you must defeat before advancing to the fourth area, where you'll find a character to save. Fight dinosaurs and evade lava in the Prehistoric era, then make your way through Aztec, Egyptian, Roman, Medieval, and Old West time periods. Each area has its own enemies to overcome and food and ammo to collect. Extra life can also be found on occasion, as well as the elusive special item. These special items must be collected within the first three levels of a time zone in order to progress!
