I saw half of this film on T V a couple of years ago and wanted to see the end. It is very funny and rather poignant as well. A mother in East Berlin collapses and goes into a coma. She is a committed member of the communist party and when she awakens from her coma, after the Berlin Wall has come down, her family is told that any surprises may kill her. They establish a charade where they pretend that nothing has happened. This entails having to dress up in their old clothes, bribe local kids to dress up as young pioneers and scour the shops for non obtainable food items. There are many other twists I will not spoil for you. I have given it four stars because I enjoyed it and have passed it on to a friend. If it had been really great I would have kept it to watch again.
