And so Bernie is once again drawn inexorably back to the dark history of the Second World War, and the deportation of the Jews of Salonika - now Thessaloniki. And, deep down, Bernie thinks they may have a point.
This Bernie Gunther novel is as good as any before it. I can't believe the author died and there won't be any more. This book is great. The large print makes it even better although it extends it to 600 pages. The plasticized paperback cover on a book this size, bigger than a pocketbook, is kind of annoying because it bends up and won't go down again but I can live with that until the next time I read it. Great book.
