I bought this book for my significant other because it has a very special meaning for the two of us. It reminds us of our first few weeks together an so I gave it to her this past New Years. This is a beautiful story rich with meaning. This is a story of love, giving, and selflessness. The book has nice but simple illustrations. I bought the 50th anniversary edition because I am not so fond of the author's mug shot at the rear of the book which is present in most versions. The only two versions I've found without the large picture of the author are this 50th Anniversary Cloth Slipcover Edition in which the picture is completely absent and the Japanese Version, which is actually in English but has Japanese Hiragana at the bottom. In the Japanese version the picture is printed on the slipcover but not on the book itself. Anyway, aside from the author's picture this book is beautiful and special and is destined to become a favorite for any child or special someone. Cheers!Read full review
One of the most beautiful printings of a timeless classic. This is the perfect version of this beloved story to pass along to friends & family — small and compact with a cloth cover and slipcase. Highest recommendation!

A bittersweet but wonderful story about life and the power of love. Personally I view the tree as if it were one or both his parent/s. They would give their all for their child. This story does not grow old.

This book has a realistic moral that I think many of us forget about: Don't take life or those you love for granted. I bought five of these books for important people in my life that willingly gave to me over and over. I admit that when I was younger I took their generosity and kindness for granted. I gave this book to each of them, all these years later, to say thanks, to show my appreciation, and to show that I am aware of the sacrifices they made for me.
This book speaks volumes about true friendship. At first the Tree is the world to the boy, but as time goes on the boy goes off in other directions, but never forgotten to the tree. The Tree loves the boy, so will give him anything out of love. But the boy never realizes how much he has hurt the Tree through neglect. In the end, though, they find what real friendship is. This was a book I read as a college student in the late 70's for one of my education classes. Then I bought a new one when I had children in the 80's. I purchased it over and over for my friends and family members whenever a new baby was born. I am now purchasing it for my first grandbaby to be. It is truly a lovely book and has become a family tradition.
Book is awesome. A note was placed into the book for our first great grandson who will be born in January. The book was used instead of a greeting card for the baby shower. My grandmother use to read this story to me. Now my great grandson can have it read to him.
