To sum it up, Killzone is about colonization and an invasion. The Helghast Empire launches an attack on I.S.A. (which will be the side you fight for) and you take control of various characters of different classes in an attempt to stop the invasion. First, let's talk about the plot. The one interesting thing about this game is that it's human versus human (or human descendant I should say). The Helghasts are mutated humans that have multiple advantages over the humans. The plot itself isn't compelling to the point where you can't stop playing the game but it holds its own. A lot of people try to compare Killzone to Halo. I don't think it's an accurate comparison. Killzone is SIMILAR to Halo but not better or worse. Killzone features a multiple character story line. You're not just one character the entire game. You get to play different characters from different classes which is important. You have the RFF, the Shadow Marshals, the ISA regulars and the field operatives. Each class has its own disadvantages and advantages and I had fun playing the different characters that were offered. Killzone has some excellent quality graphics. Some of the best I've seen in a while. It has this metal feel to it. I can't explain it better than that, you'd have to see for yourself to know what I mean. The single most irritating thing about this game is the controls. They are very hard to work with. And by "hard" I just mean they're extremely awkward. Often times the camera is off which makes it really difficult to play to the best of your ability. I wouldn't call this the best game I've ever played but this certainly was a great game. I purchased it new and still play it from time to time. If you're interested in a shooting game, this is what you're looking for.Read full review
During the PS2's lifecycle, the FPS genre as a whole has been surprisingly underwhelming for the system. Sony's own Killzone was supposed to change all that, being labeled a "Halo killer" when first unveiled. Well, here we are only a few years later, and the original Killzone is still pretty underwhelming itself. Killzone puts you in the shoes of one of four playable characters as you battle in an interstellar war. What sets Killzone apart from other FPS' is the game's very well done story and ideas. The game's story alone will make you want to get further into the game to see what happens next. Whether or not that happens though is entirely up to you. The single player mode is lengthy and is heavy on action elements, but there are a number of noticeable glitches and bugs that mar the graphics and gameplay. Thankfully though, the multiplayer mode is pretty sweet, even though there are some lag problems when you take Killzone online. The game also features some great cinematics and voice acting to boot, but it's just a crying shame that more time wasn't put into getting the bugs out and getting rid of the overly generic feel that is prevelant throughout the game's length that would have made Killzone something special. All in all, Killzone isn't a bad FPS for the PS2, but one can't help but feel disappointed after playing it. Hopefully Sony's next installment for the next-gen will be every bit as drool-worthy as it seems to be.Read full review
This game really puts you in the middle of the action...its a epic war between Marine's and Black Ops! You have many weapons and even grenades to toss, you can also play free-style team vs. team! Its exciting and keeps you on your toes with plenty of action and heart throbbing experiences...can you survive? GOOD ROLE PLAYER GAME! Kill or be killed! I would tell anyone who likes war based fighting games...GET THIS GAME.....it does have some graphic battle scenes such as blood, being blown up, killing & explosions so I would use age discretion! Definetely NOT for younger children...
This game has great graphics, pretty good controls (even tho they kinda feel stiff sometimes) and is overall a fun game. The graphics are phenomenal for a ps2 game. It seems almost as good as some graphics on Final Fantasy 12. They do tend to get clunky though, at times. The voice acting is pretty bad. The controls feel a bit clunky at times, but all of this is fixed in killzone 2. I know this review has some bad grammar, but i'm too lazy to fix it. Overall, it's fun and you should buy it cause it's pretty cheap.
Someone at Sony decided to Try to peg this Game as the Halo Killer... I never thought anyone should try to kill Halo, Halo is a great game. What you really want to do is Mimic Halo. After all Halo was trying to Mimic Half-Life, Red Faction, and Doom. Halo took the Best from all those games and added a few things of it's own to make a great game. Now I found this Game to be a really good game. The Graphics are really awesome. The Story is pretty good too. Having Played Killzone 2 now I would say KZ2 has improved every facet of this game. But at the Time Killzone 1 came out it held up to all of my other Favorite Shooters such as Red Faction, Halo, Duke Nukem, Doom, Quake, etc. I just bought this game again because I wanted to Refresh the Story with a Second Play through now that I have Finished Killzone 2 Twice. The Cons to this Game that I had were not being able to Jump and the Enemies were not Varied enough. I would have also liked to seen more Vehicles.Read full review
This game visually looks really cool I have to admit But there were a few things that I did not like about the game: 1. You can only use the on screen cross hairs to aim theres no weapon aiming view, only on the sniper rifle which obviously has a scope. 2. Crouch is one of the L buttons and you have to hold it to stay crouched AND there is no prone. 3. In the single player there is a big lack of checkpoints, if you play for half an hour e.g. and you die its back to the beginning. One thing I did find really interesting about this game was when you ran the edges of the screen would get blurry if I remember correctly and this game was out before Gears of War which has the same effect. Overall I'm not a fan of this game as I pretty much only play Online First Person Shooters and the occasional Third Person Shooter, the controls just seemed a bit odd for me. Personally, for online Shooters, I feel Killzone is no where near as good as Metal Gear Solid 3 and my personal favorite Delta Force Black Hawk Down.Read full review
I purchased game used, but in good condition. Game has a good story line, fun, and nice graphics. Game play gets choppy and explosion sound effects are missing at times. Enemy voices annoying at times. Game play could have been smoother, but overall, game is intense and exciting to play.
I remember playing KILLZONE on a demo disc back in the day and I was fixed on it! I’m super happy I bought this game to enjoy it fully! Makes me want to play the whole series. It was in great condition and works great!

If you like shooting games then this is pretty much the game for you. This is like Playstation trying to compete with Halo. Which kind of falls short. This game is definately the best shooting game for Playstation 2 next to Black. It doesn't offer as much as Halo as in like creating a player and stuff. But the online action kicks tail. Way better than Socom 1 and 2. The story line in 1 player is quite bad. But all the killing makes up for it. Sniper rifle is quite hard to use at first, but I know people who have mastered it. Rocket Launchers are great in this game along with grenades and shotguns. Game offers two types of players Hellghast (which are considered the evil team) and Human (which are considered the the good team). The game features a few glitches which are a little troubling; especially when online when players show up and disappear. All in all this game is definately one to own for ps2 and I give the game a 10 out of 10. Thank you for reading my review and please rate this review when your done.Read full review
I bought Killzone for PS2. It's a fairly old title so I was expecting to find a good-ish condition used game. Instead I found a brand new copy and a cheap one at that. It has some of the best graphics I've seen on the PS2 platform (for a first-person-shooter). Gameplay is fast and fun, and the subtle details really impressed me; like weapon changes and reload actions. It seems so realistic (as if the actions were copied off a real person). It's lengthy enough to keep you entertained for weeks. The multiplayer is amazing. The online battles are probably the best feature. You and 15 others battle it out in several game modes (deathmatch etc). Though, I had to buy the network configuration CD for the PS2 before I could play it online (newer games have the required software built in). It ranks as one of the top 5 in it's genre. Overall, one of the best PS2 titles made and still a joy to play. Now all I have to do is play it's big brother on PS3... Killzone 2 :)Read full review
