Additional InformationDalton Trumbo adapts and directs his own novel. A moving drama which realistically depicts the horrors and evil of war. A youthful combatant suffers horrific shell damage on the last day of the First World War. He is so horribly wounded and disfigured--his legs and arms amputated, his eyes, ears, nose and mouth destroyed--that he begs to be allowed to die. Still conscious and full of reason, he asks that he be used as a shocking demonstration of the horrors of war.
