SynopsisAnna Karenina is one of the loved and memorable heroines of literature. Her overwhelming charm dominates a novel of unparalleled richness and density. This book addresses the very nature of society at various levels - of destiny, death, human relationships and the irreconcilable contradictions of existence., Translated by Louise and Aylmer Maude. Introduction and Notes by E.B. Greenwood, University of Kent. Anna Karenina is one of the most loved and memorable heroines of literature. Her overwhelming charm dominates a novel of unparalleled richness and density. Tolstoy considered this book to be his first real attempt at a novel form, and it addresses the very nature of society at all levels, - of destiny, death, human relationships and the irreconcilable contradictions of existence. It ends tragically, and there is much that evokes despair, yet set beside this is an abounding joy in life's many ephemeral pleasures, and a profusion of comic relief., Translated by Louise and Aylmer Maude. I saw the movie based on this book many years ago. It impressed me profoundly.
But when I bought the book precisely from this seller, once I started to read it was very difficult to put it down to attend some pressing matters. When reading sometimes the reader feel compelled to close the eyes;
being transported to that period in time, the marked differences in the way of life of men versus women. It makes you reflect on the injustices... and more than any, the injustices committed against the women. The acceptance and the humility of them. After reading the book I spent the rest of the night reflecting in so many things... Excellent book.
