Calling this a Duke Ellington broadcast is not accurate. It's a 30-minute Bing Crosby radio show. Duke Ellington is a "guest" and there is a brief dialog between Bing and the Duke. However, as far as I can tell, Duke does not perform any music. None of the songs listed on the album are written by Ellington. In fact I don't understand the point of having him on the program at all. Suck a shame, too ... Ellington was an outstanding musician, yet here we do not hear his music and we do not hear him perform.
Other than that, as a wartime episode of the Crosby radio show, this has some historical interest. The audio restoration is reasonably good (much better than a lot of free recordings found on various websites). It's an acceptable listen ... just don't expect to hear more than a few spoken words from Duke Ellington.
