About this product

Product Information

Director Ridley Scott's hauntingly prescient vision of the not-too-distant future stars Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, a retired police assassin, or "blade runner." The Los Angeles of 2019 is a dark, polluted, overcrowded dystopia dominated by cloud-piercing buildings and looming neon billboards, the air dense with acid rain and flying traffic. World-weary Deckard has been called out of retirement to liquidate four escaped "replicants"--genetically derived androids of great strength, intelligence, and nearly-human emotion who serve as slaves and prostitutes in the off-planet colonies. Led by Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer), they've come to Los Angeles to confront their designer, Eldon Tyrell (Joe Turkel), with their unhappiness about the brevity of their four-year life span. In the course of his search, Deckard becomes romantically entwined with Tyrell's lovely assistant, Rachael (Sean Young), and must eventually confront Batty in an unforgettable rain-soaked sequence. A highly influential fusion of the science fiction and noir genres based on the novel DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? by Philip K. Dick, this postmodern film boasts astonishingly rich art direction, juxtaposing ingenious technological gadgetry with yellowing photographs and fetishistic objets d'art as it touches on questions of time, memory, identity, and mortality. Scott's 1992 director's cut edition contains notable alterations, including the absence of Ford's narration, which significantly heightens the ambiguity of key moments in this stunning cinematic landmark.

Stange movie then. Not changed since first release.

This Director's Cut is not narrated as the original was. So the lead character's thoughts and reasons for acting as he does are hidden. It makes the mover harder to understand and follow. Still, it is a classic and worthy of viewing. The vision of the future is unnerving. Slavery of whom ever is still wrong and what the reasoning is for the enslavement of the replicants is no excuse.

    Somebody turn on the light...

Atmosphere throughout the film is very depressing...dark, wet...all the way through. Story is great but could have been produced much, much better. Cast did their part to pull it off, but...

  • Blade Runner Director's Cut 1997

Blade Runner Theatre Release 1982 The Director Ridley Scott decided to improve the Movie. Enhanced video effects and sound. He disagreed with the Studio's Happy Ever After ending and the Voiceover by Harrison Ford's character, Decker. This 1997 version of Blade Runner has removed both. Still has the controversy of Slavery, Japanese-Mod lifestyle, Futuristic but sloppy World. A plot similar to a Humphrey Bogart Detective at work. Special Effects 1982 still holds up. NO CGI. Movie adapted from Philip K. Dick novel

  • It is Blade Runner. Watch these Hollywood moroons ruin the remake.

Timeless classics from Philip K. Dick who in his later years of life became a wealthy writer after many attempts in the world of sci-fi ( Pulp novels, exploitation, etc ). This version of the film is the deleted scenes assembled together to form a movie. Think of it like Highlander II the fanmade fairytale ending with but with all the scenes that was missing from the original release. Honestly I never knew anything about Blade Runner but my own mother seemed to be a fan of it as well. Great film, next to "THX....." along with "Dark Star". Sad part how the Harrison Ford also plays the Han Solo dies in Star Wars ( the Disney flop ) but the Princess passed away in real life. Just amaazing. I really really really really wuv Blade Runner and Appreciate the ability of writers from Films like these including the "Third Eye" AKA the Terminatrix by Sofia Stweart. Just goes to show you that college education actual is able to pave a path of creativity that everybody can enjoy. Most of Philip K. Dicks later years was towards God and ideas of God. Do "Androids Dream of Sheep" ? IDK but this Disc 4 makes a great reference to Graphic designers, and other fiction buffs.

  • What's a tortoise?

This film got less than rave reviews when it was first released. I can only assume that the critics were unprepared for a heavily philosophical noir tale set in a future world ravaged by pollution and war. It's not a bright, shiny vision of a better tomorrow where the good guy always wins and everyone lives happily ever after. It is a grim, dystopian tragedy where the good guys are just as morally bankrupt as the bad guys and certainty is nigh nonexistent. What this film does better than perhaps any other science fiction film before or since is to paint a future that is likely, if not in the fine details then in the oppressive setting. Humankind is on the wane, it's edifices and achievements crumbling inexorably into ruin. The days reveal a smog shrouded wasteland and the nights are inky nightmares only feebly pierced by the last neon lifesigns of a dying species. With a treatment as dark as this you might wonder how anyone could find it entertaining. It is the burning house you can't look away from. It is the half eaten carcass of a lion's prey being circled by vultures. And ultimately, at the end of everything, it is a suggestion that humanity can be more than just human.

  • Cool

No extras. It's a DVD copy of a video tape of an original 35mm print complete with dust and scratches... Yet, I'm totally happy with it for the price.

  • Our Future will be much more complicated...

It is good stuff. We need to think about a lot for our future. I am hoping human can survive for another few thousands of years. It is truly depend upon our behavior and mind set.
