About this product

Product Information

In this remake of the 1947 film OUT OF THE PAST, Terry Brogan (Jeff Bridges) is a handsome football player, who has been a top player for his team, the Outlaws. But after he suffers a shoulder injury, the team suddenly fires him, leaving Brogan out of a job and out of money. Nightclub owner Jake Wise (James Woods) hires Brogan to hunt down his runaway girlfriend and the $50,000 she stole from him. Out of options and with Jake holding one of Brogan's old mistakes over his head, Brogan reluctantly agrees. In beautiful Cozumel, Mexico, he not only finds the girl (Rachel Ward) but falls in love with her. However, their romance is shattered when he realizes there's a lot more to the story than Wise told him. In over his head, Brogan finds himself in a fight for the girl, his career, and his survival. Woods is creepy as the threatening Jake Wise, and ex-football star Alex Karras plays coach and ex-football star Hank Sully.

    All time favorite!

I always cry! I just turn around and watch you leave. The power in the line crumbles most people. I find my strength!. Love as hard as I can and grab happiness every moment as we never know when a love will end. Laugh, love hard and suck the life out of every moment you have with someone you love!

    why

The movie itself is alright, but nothing special. It's portrayed as about man hired to find a woman for his rich friend. In reality, the movie is about her, which probably won't be recognized till the very end. Her actions are what saves the day in certain circumstances. But the way the movie was written or cut makes it about Terry more than her. (Perhaps the producers were sexist and reworked the film to revolve around a male lead?) Terry has a lot of issues. He acts misogynist at certain parts. The movie doesn't have a typical happy Hollywood ending. (Much like when watching The Bodyguard, I was left asking "why?") Ultimately, both Terry & Jessie are bad lead characters for a movie. She is weak and relies on family or boyfriend for finances. He cares more about his career. Neither one of them learns or grows by the end of the movie. The song that plays at the end (by Phil Collins) is spectacular, and why I wanted to see this movie. The theme really describes the movie, but yet leaves me feeling a female artist would have fit the theme better. But, I should review the DVD features as well. It has many special features. Including deleted/extended scenes, with optional commentary.
