Product Information

David O. Russell makes his entry into the major studio big leagues with the electric war dramedy THREE KINGS. The politically charged script, based on a fictional story by John Ridley, is a sly reworking of KELLY'S HEROES, and concerns four Gulf War soldiers who discover a map that may lead to an enormous stash of gold bullion. Russell gives actors George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube, and Spike Jonze a chance to shine, in roles that step outside the usual cinematic clichés and enable them to create human, believable characters, resulting in one of 1999's most exciting, original, and underrated motion pictures.

    Not As Horrid As Some Reviewers Think

    I read the previous review on here. And, while there may be enough swearing to turn some people off and the like, this is an R rated movie, where such vices come with the rating. Plus, the story is a deconstruction of America Saves The Day as the main characters look for gold and their search for it causes a whole lot of trouble that they have to fix. And both they and the characters who would be portrayed as irredeemable baddies in the average John Wayne movie are characterized and portrayed humanely and realistically and with no stereotypes. (Said is even shown to have a justified and understandable reason for why he hates the U.S. as it was responsible for the bombings that killed his wife and daughter.) Better than the John Wayne movie and definitely better than Pearl Harbor for, unlike those two kinds of films, it has a morality that transitions as the story goes on.
