About this product

Product Information

This melancholy film explores the intersecting lives of five exotic dancers who work at a San Fernando Valley strip club, the Blue Iguana. None of them have it easy. Angel (Darryl Hannah) wishes she could take in a foster child or have a baby of her own - but her messy, dysfunctional existence makes this an impossible dream. Joe (Jennifer Tilly) is pregnant, but wants an abortion, and can barely keep her rage at the world contained. Jasmine (Sandra Oh) writes beautiful poetry on the side--but doesn't have the confidence to read her work aloud or take it seriously. Jesse (Charlotte Ayanna) looks for love but instead gets beaten by her boyfriend; and Stormy (Sheila Kelley) tries to forget the great love of her life: her brother.Director Michael Radford won the Best Foreign Film Academy Award for his sensitive IL POSTINO in 1994. DANCING AT THE BLUE IGUANA was in part developed through improvisational workshops in which the actors helped to come up with their own characters and storylines for the film; this experimental preparatory work was then shaped into a screenplay by Mr. Radford. But the true focus of the film is on the dance sequences; each woman expresses her hopes and sorrows using her body to communicate her feelings.

When I heard about Darryl Hanna starring in this movie & the movies' subject matter, I knew I wanted to see it, her being my favorite beautiful blonde film star w/an intellect as I garnered from hearing her interviewed. I was unaware of the movie playing in theaters, & just found the film online. Wondered was Sandra Oh famous before this (Greys' Anatomy?) very good in the supporting role or as a co-star, The movie neither glamorised or made itself too trragic a la Jennifer Tillys' character. Sheila Kellys' character gave a little humanity to a really sick twist of llife all too comon to members of the profession, & Charlotte Ayanna as the injenue or novice added the almost impossible innocence of heart & maybe I got myself a little too deep here & it didn;t shy away from the taboo drinking & drugging also too common in these circumstances. compellin The Woman who played Nico the feature was also compelling a feast for the eyes playing someone more famous than the other womem but for what W/ acertain blankness in her eyes & expression, if the mutual take of advantage of me & I'll take advantage of you World.

  • Dancing with the Iguanna

A decent movie--Mainly got it to watch Kristin Bauer dancing at the Gentlemen's Club--(loved her in True Blood on HBO--But the other treats were Daryl Hannah, Jennifer Tilly, Sandra Oh, Charlotte Ayanna, and a bevy of other girls pole dancing. Lots of eye candy and good for a few laughs--Enjoy--frankjann2012

  • Commitment to the part

The actresses made total commitment to their roles as dancers at a strip club, because of the quality of acting the movie showed good depth of background to each performer, showing them as human beings with all their faults, and backstories. Each actress was given opportunity to tell us what made them tick, the male cast wasn’t given as much exposition., but then the movie was not about them.
