Nothing special about this Special Edition
As a childhood favorite, I was delighted to see this packaged as a Special Edition of the original "Invaders From Mars." As such, I had expectations of an original 35MM print in fine condition, at least digitally cleaned of specks, scratch lines, and color corrected as necessary. Nope. The color, exposure, and sound are good on this 50th Anniversary Special Edition. Unfortunately, there are many needless dirt specks, and many stubborn scratch lines in the print used for this, which I suspect is a 16mm print. In a few places the focus is soft also, going slightly blurry--film grain and all. Still, I found it very entertaining. Just don't expect anything close to a pristine look to the presentation for this Special Edition. Also, if searching for this movie, be careful not to confuse it for the later remakes, available in Bluray.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

watch both versions, and have a new outlook on what could have been !
This DVD includes the British version , I am 72 years old. and love this movie, But had never seen or even knew a British version existed. It has a different ending. and a completely added in sequence at the giant telescope scene from Griffith Observatory, with a huge mistake in wardrobe and haircut on the young boy . . A small boy realizes his parents have been replaced by copies (not very good ones) and with the help of grownups, chases the Martians out of earth and recovers his parents. Classic Sci-Fi From the Atomic Age and Roswell Era
Classic of it's time period, great sci-fi from the Atomic Age and Roswell era... Baby Boomer's (especially) will appreciate how the film captures the aura of imagination and wonder of the time. This edition is a reasonably good packaging of this classic sci-fi film. Could have had a few more special features... perhaps some of the news reports of the era. Classic B & W Sci Fi!!!
Below average acting and of course primitive special effects but there’s something about it. I loved it as a kid and got that same feeling when I watched it the other night. Invaders From Mars - Still frightening After All Those Years!
This newly restored and digitalized version of a classic sci-fi/horror gem is a perfect reminder as to just how good it was. When I was five years old, this film literally scared the s__t out of me! Now, sixty-three years later, I was able to see it again with a much more sophisticated sensibility and the film's psychologically disturbing qualities, since it is told from a child's point of view, reveal just how fine it is.
