A wonderful classic cd. Everyone should know this surprising, haunting album. A favourite.

I can only confirm what so many others have said about this record. It is an absolute classic of 1967 in many respects it is so far ahead of its time that it hardly a surprise that it did not sell to well at the time. In the US each “Love” LP sold less than the one before it whilst in England each sold more. “Forever changes” predecessors where interesting records, but this one is a real breakthrough. The songs use mostly acoustic instruments as their foundations and are complimented by excellent if understated work by the rest of the band. The String arrangements work unbelievable well. Every track is worthwhile although a couple take a few listens to get into. Take a look online at the reviews and you will quickly get the message that this is one of the most widely respected LP’s of the 1960’s. Although it didn’t sell to well at the start it has gone on to be a best seller and has never been out of print. I have no qualms at all about recommending this CD to you. Perhaps though it would be better to get the expanded 2 CD expanded version straight off because like me you will almost certainly want to own that version. The live “Forever changes” recoded in London is also well worth buying. Unless you have absolutely no feel for great music this record will become a favorite of yours. It is a shame that there are so few records as good as this one.Read full review
I was about 15 when "Forever Changes" was released, full of teen angst and rebellion, blah blah. This album did get some airplay on "underground" FM in the Los Angeles area, and the songs spoke to me. I bought the album and was mesmerized by it. Each and every track. I listened to it in bed at night. I ultimately went through several vinyl copies. Well time passed and digital arrived, and I foolishly dumped a lot of my albums, including my copies of "Forever Changes". I later rediscovered it on CD, and was once again transfixed. It's genius. It deserves to be heard, and it deserves a place of honor in rock history.
Singer/songwriter Arthur Lee's lyrics are increasingly fragmentary and paranoid, foreshadowing the band's eventual drug-fueled collapse. Yet these drop-dead hip tunes are set in arrangements featuring Herb Alpert-style mariachi horns, lush middle of the road strings, and other tropes of the easy listening scene, creating a more unsettling sense of tension than if the songs were given the usual heavy rock instrumentation. Every single track is a stone classic, although second songwriter Bryan MacLean's contributions, the haunted "Old Man" and especially the simply gorgeous opener "Alone Again Or," deserve special consideration. FOREVER CHANGES belongs high on any halfway serious list of the greatest pop albums of the '60s. Recommended.
I already have this item--bought this for a present..Its a classic album if not THE classic.. The great late Arthur Lee..!
