After lengthy research, 3M Peltor was bought ahead of 3M Tekk for reasons of the greater noise suppression. The intended use is for watching live motorsport whilst listening to track commentary. The first outing at the Bathurst 12 Hour event confirmed suitability for this purpose. Good hearing without high volume, without a complete loss aural inputs from the cars – a good balance and not tiring. This bodes well for a 24 hour event in mid-June. I have just test driven same on a long haul flight. Here volume control is via the plane’s entertainment system, which is set at a comfortable 40% level. Clarity of sound at this low level was good. The back ground hum of the plane was noticeably reduced, and only a distant crying child was identifiable (and most tolerable). The downside? They are bit bulky in a confined environment and a bit ‘look at me’ in otherwise grey toned business world. Various reviews talk to product issues that I have confirmed. Best is to ensure that your ears are fitted wholly within the cups, less you end up with sore ears. It is a firm fit, so taking a moment to get comfortable has rewards. A key reported issue now confirmed on several instances is that the on/off knob that is easily actuated when handling (i.e. in/out of bag). This is ** after ** due care has been taken. Firmware limits the damage to batteries, but this amounts to a design weakness arising from knob size (for usage with gloves on). My engineering rectification plan is to insert an ‘o’ ring on the pot shaft to generate additional friction between the knob and housing. Still not convinced? I just bought a second pair for a family member.Read full review
