Shrink wrapping is the practice of wrapping packages in a plastic film and applying heat to allow the wrapping to conform to the package’s shape. Many industries are using shrink wrapping for packaging and shipping. It is also useful for personal home use when you want to seal your own packages.

The plastic film used in shrink wrapping is usually made out of four types of plastic, mainly polyolefin, PVC, polyethylene and polypropylene. They come in different colours such as black, white, green and customised branding prints, but the most common one used is the clear shrink wrap. There are also shrink wraps for small packages and heavy duty shipping shrink wraps for larger packages.

Heat is applied using either a shrink gun, a type of blower that heats the film or an industrial heating machine that is designed to shrink wrap large boxes. There are also heat machines that are designed for mass shrink wrapping––a common practice of manufacturers and product distributors.

When you shrink wrap your package, you can ensure that there will be no tampering because the damage will be obvious. Shrink wrapping is also useful for delivering perishable products to keep air out of the package. Some use shrink wrapping for branding purposes as well.

For those who are not planning on shrink wrapping industrial-sized materials, you may want to use a handheld shrink wrap dispenser. There are also bundling film dispensers that let you roll the wrap around smaller products. There are also shrink wraps for other containers like jars and bottles and even shrink wraps for cable wires as well. Lastly, anti-static shipping shrink wrappers are used for electronic products so that they won’t get damaged in transit or if they are exposed to static electricity.
