TVs favorite silver foxes Beatrice Arthur, Rue McClanahan, Betty White and Estelle Getty star as elderly roommates on a mission to prove life really does begin at 65. In the first season, the women have romantic prospects that turn out to be more challenging than they originally seemed. In "Second Motherhood," Blanche likes her new boyfriend until she discovers he has several small children. "The Engagement" sees Harry proposing to Blanche, but Rose has strong doubts about him. For the episode titled "Guess Who's Coming to the Wedding?" Dorothy grudgingly agrees to see her hated ex-husband at their daughter's wedding, and in "Rose the Prude," Rose goes on a cruise with a man who wants to share the same room. Great Show - Terrible Packaging
Do not get me wrong I love the show, always have. This is more towards the packaging. This newer style of hinged cases has got to be the worst out there. My set arrived with 3/4 of the inside disks dislodged, hinges dislodged from the case, OIL inside two of the cases and on the disks, and some scratched horribly with bubbles on the disks. Its a shame you cannot get any good dvd or blueray sets anymore unless they are in older style cases that hold the disks in place.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

love the extra features you just don't see on tv
I love this series, and I like to own it on dvd because a lot of the original short scenes and things like that were really quite hilarious or just more integral to the plot of the show, have been cut now, if you watch it in it's syndicated form, so if you get the dvd, don't have to worry about missing a thing.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

The packaging was great and so were the dvds. I was hesitant about buying because some of the comments were about packaging that was terrible and broken dvds, but I didn’t receive any broken. Defective Disc
I love "The Golden Girls." My review is not of the show, but of the Season 1 DVDs that I received. They were purchased brand new, but I immediately noticed what looks like some kind of wrinkle or small crack in two places on the back of the first disc. Sure enough, it will not play correctly in any device. After opening on the Buena Vista logo, the disc grinds hard in the player, and nothing else happens- no episodes are available to play, no menu screen can be accessed. It's a big disappointment! Laugh-Out-Loud!
I happened to catch an episode of The Golden Girls on one of those classic TV stations and felt surprised at myself because I laughed out loud--frequently--during the episode. So I bought this first season inexpensively on Ebay and enjoy it thoroughly. I'm a man and sixty-two, and never would have thought I'd be engaged by this show and these characters, but I am. It is genuinely funny, and has tender moments, too. The issues of then are still relevant now.
