Product Information

Brother Cadfael (born in 1080 A.D.), a 12th-century monk at Shrewsberry Abbey in Norman England, solves crimes and treats illnesses with his botanical knowledge of herbs and plants. Based on the 21 Cadfael novels by Ellis Peters (a.k.a. Edith Pargeter) and featuring Derek Jacobi as Cadfael, this English television series of 90-minute episodes began filming in Budapest in 1993.

    Total waste of money

    Took the cellophane off the box myself so hard to argue it wasn't new, but it will not play on my DVD player. I can play other DVD's but the screen on these just reads "This disc may not be played in your region. Unless someone knows a trick I don't, these are a total waste of money!!

    Historically interesting - and provocative

    Derek Jacobi is always excellent and his Cadfael is both compassionate and firery, as circumstances require. Also, Jacobi's brief audio comments on each disk's Extra Features are quite interesting. We are fans of British mysteries, comedies and dramas, but I must say that the penchant for muder and bloodshed sometimes bothers me. While Brit violence is not as over-the-top and the U.S. brand, it tends to be more gruesome. That said, I will continue to abide.
