For five years, comic legends Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore lit up the living rooms of homes across America as stars of THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW. First airing on October 3rd 1961, the CBS series followed the misadventures of comedy writer Rob Petrie (Dyke), his wife Laura (Moore), their neighbors, and co-workers. Though the couple lived in New Rochelle, NY, much of the show's humor actually existed within the fictional world of Petrie's own televised creation, called THE ALAN BRADY SHOW. "The Dick Van Dyke Show" is something the whole family can enjoy, without worrying about crude humor, bad scenes, or language. That being said, I can't endorse every single thing contained in this series--no one could--but the lighthearted approach to life has timeless appeal. The acting is superb, virtues are promoted, and problems are addressed with thoughtfulness. This set has bonus features, like photos, mini interviews, and commentaries. Worth the money for the product.
I love the older tv shows, no sex, violence or bad language. I like seeing the actors and actresses that I watched when I was growing up. I don’t understand what the little coloring book was for, I’m not senile or childish, just sentimental. Don’t understand why there was a little tv card, showing the hologram image of Laura sliding out of the closet. Also, the word “remastered” and the color on the box, against the black and white drawing, gave me the false impression that the video would be in color.
