Great game for those who grew up on Nintendo and want to get into DDR without buying a Playstation. It's also great for DDR noobz because it has easy levels that provide some very basic practice. You won't find comparably easy levels on Playstation DDR games. The super hard levels will still provide a challenge for experienced players. Most of the songs are remixes of songs from older Mario games (upping the nostalgia factor). Like all DDR games, it's great exercise without feeling like exercise. Since is a GameCube game (played on a console that uses AV cables), the graphics aren't great. Who plays DDR for the graphics anyways? You have to play Story Mode to earn songs - which is obnoxious. The storyline is very cheesy and forced, and it takes way too long to go through all the unnecessary dialogue amongst characters. Once you earned the songs, you're good to go and can play whatever, whenever in "Free Mode." Personally, I love it. It's hard to believe I played it almost 15 years ago. Now, I am playing as a 35-year-old mom and my 5 year old and 5 month old are entertained watching me while I am having fun and getting in some exercise. One day, they will be old enough to play :)Read full review

It seems that these days Mario can be found doing just about everything. He saves princesses, kingdoms, and the world on a regular basis. He's a doctor, a plumber, and a master of disguise. He plays just about every sport known to man. And now he dances. Mario Mix is, in many ways, just like any other DDR game. You step on the arrows as they appear, and if you do it with precise timing you get more points. But this game introduces a lot of new elements that make the game entirely unique in the series. First off is the story mode. This involves Mario (or Luigi) dancing around the Mushroom Kingdom in search of the four music keys. It's here that you unlock the songs that can be played in free mode, most of which are remixed Mario Bros. tunes. In this mode, you can also buy items to make the going a little easier, such as extra lives and items to keep your dance meter from going down when you miss a move. Unfortunately, this can take away a bit of the challenge from the game, but if you want a challenge, you can always just avoid buying items. Some songs require the player stomp enemies as they dance to give this game that real Mario feel. The enemies will float about on the screen, and failure to stomp on them as they pass over your arrows usually means a major hit to your meter, or that the arrows will become harder to see. Some levels require the player to hit these in order to pass, so even if you manage to somehow get through the song without hitting these, you still fail the level. This might annoy some hard-core DDR fans, but I thought it was a lot of fun. There are also several fun little mini-games that can be unlocked to keep things interesting. These are all reminiscent of activities from other Mario games, such as running to the flag-pole, and hitting goombas with a hammer (ala whack-a-mole). Any of these can be played during story mode or free mode after they are unlocked. There's only two gripes that I really have about this game. First and foremost is that the song list for this game is VERY short compared to other DDR games (twenty-something songs total). This takes A LOT away from the game and greatly shorted the amount of time that I spent playing it. The second thing that I found to be annoying was the lack of playable characters. Even in free mode, you only get the choice to play as Mario or Luigi, both of whom use the exact same rediculous (and hilarious) dance moves. Would it have killed Nintendo to add in a few of the old Mario stand-bys (Peach, Yoshi, a few of the NPC villians) and give them their own movesets? This wasn't really that big of a deal to me, but it was a disappointment. Also of note is that the dance pad for this game was supposedly recalled, so you may want to invest in a third-party mat for this game. All-in-all, this is a pretty fun game, but it could have used some improvements. If you are a DDR fanatic, you might enjoy the new tunes and gameplay additions, but you could just as easily be turned off by the very same things. I'd mostly recommend this game to those who, like me, are passive DDR players, Mario fans, or people who are just looking for a novelty game. It really is a lot of fun, and could be a great way to introduce a noob or younger player to the DDR series. Just don't expect it to be the typical DDR.Read full review
It's DDR meets Mario party. Play classic DDR action in the Mushroom Kindom to songs from every Mario episode. From the original Super Mario Bros. to Mariokart Double Dash, and even techno versions of Bach and Beetoven. Play the interesting Story Mode where Mario surpasses each obsticle, including remodeling Toadette's Hotel and the ever predictable Bowser fight, by dancing. Mario Mix does have an interesting "Mush Mode" where Goombas and Koopas replace the arrows you stomp on. Fight our favorite baddies the DDR way. It's got most of what every DDR episode has, but a much more limited library. Despite the available four controllers, Mario Mix limits cometition to two matts (but most people won't have the floor space for more than that), but no dual matt mode (one player on both matts). You can only play as Mario or Luigi (the Princesses don't even show up in this one), only 5 worlds, and fewer than 30 songs. That's the biggest problem with this one: way too short. Appearently, Nintendo never anticipated this to be much of a hit, so it's hard to find in stores, and even here on eBay, it's kind of tough to get a hold of. This one is great for families, beginners and vetrans, kids and adults alike, and if you can get a reasonable bid price, go for it. 8 out of 10Read full review

My 12 year old daughter wanted this for Christmas but we couldn't find it in stores because of it being discontinued. So her Grandmother gave her the money to purchase it. We already had the gamecube and this is the only DDR version for it. She and her 10 year old sister and all their friends LOVE playing this. It gets them moving and is a great workout for them! I get to play too sometimes. She really likes the story mode that doesn't come with the other game versions (playstation, etc.) We are very happy with this purchase.
This game is a lot of fun. I wish we had found it a long time ago. We have two pads with it, so we can play 2-player. Our 4 and 6 year olds love to dance with Mario and Luigi. The difficulty level can be set to easy for the kids, normal for my wife, and hard for me. As we get better, there is also "very hard" and "super hard" settings. Beside the dancing there are also mini-games for the kids to play with the pad. There is an actual story-mode where you help Mario or Luigi save the kingdom by dancing to accomplish various tasks. The core gameplay is just like most DDR games where you try to step on arrows, but there are also lots of Marios enemies that you have to step on along the way, like Goombas, koopas, and squid. My wife and I use it for a fun workout (yes you can sweat a lot if you used the hard setting) and the kids use it just for fun.Read full review
I recently bought this game about 3 weeks ago for my family. We were trying to figure out a way to get a Nintendo crazed twelve year-old to get more exercise when at home. I was shocked at how much fun this game was! This game has amazing graphics, different difficulty levels, and one cute story line that takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour to get through. It is a clean storyline that is acceptable for all ages, that has Mario trying to save the music/dance keys. Any person can play by themselves, or if an additional dance mat is purchased two people can play in head to head competition. One of the features that I found extremely neat is that this game also has a calorie counter. All you have to do is punch in your weight and make sure you have your name up when using the mat. Then who ever is on the mat will know how good of a workout they are getting. Not only did the twelve year old love it, but I did to. It's fun, entertaining, and great for a good laugh and some exercise in the process. I would recommend this game to anyone who has a Gamecube!Read full review
If you are a big DDR fan this game will be to simple, but if you just like to dance and you love Nintendo this game will be great for you. You play through like story game with dance battles to defeat the enemy at hand. The further you get the more advance the dance steps become. There are different modes which include two players, stomping on gumbas or even a workout mode. So if you love mario and his friends, and you want to get up and dance, you should check this game out.
I love the music in this version (I have PS2 DDR Extreme and PS2 DDr Supernova). Very cutsy. The option to destroy (Mario style) all the "bad" creatures is a neat twist. What is really great about this game is that it really starts easy in story mode and gets harder. (Easiest songs and levels only use left and right arrows.) Which I think is wonderful for someone who wants to start out. Great version for kids. My 3.5 yr old daughter can do the easy level with some consistency depending on the speed of the song. The leveling us from easy t the next level is more gradual than other DDR games I have. I like that. In the others there is a big jump from level to level. Although if you are an accomplished DDR dancer then this will be too easy. Although it is a cute version to have.
