  • Great movie

The movie was a reasonable representation of the HG Wells novel. It was the story about earthly man against the alien Martian war ships, mostly. Only at the end was one leg shown of the Martian. Wells, IMO, had an incredible imagination to depict such a battle, in which it is understandable that the Martian creatures themselves factored little into the equation. In addition, it explains the reason that only a portion of the alien needed to be shown, indicating its physical bodily weakness. The Martian superiority appeared to have been its mental capacity to build such war ships, that can travel in space, and advanced weaponry. I believe the movie did justice to the novel. It held my attention throughout its entirety. The last point I want to make was that it was a low budget movie, which accounted for the plot's expediency, which did not allow for a Martian character elaboration, IMHO. Thank you.

  • The best version, "Lets wave the white flag" lol

This is a 1952 version of the HG Wells 1938 Radio broadcast (included), but set in LA California. It's a gem of a classic, I love. The story and special effects will keep you laughing, but you must pretend to be frightened once and a while, lol. It's definitely better and completely unlike the "New" version, with Tom Cruise petting Robbie's ass, LMAO. The video shows Full Screen on my 32" LCD, and the quality of image is superb. A must have for your science Fiction library, as modern Sci-Fi movies are total CGI queer tainted garbage.

  • I Loved this movie, since i saw it in 1953

Great, since it has some extra features that I enjoyed, the cast commentaries and especially the Orson Wells 1938 Radio broadcast that scared the "He**" out of the listeners back then. I was 11 years old when I saw it in 1953 at the theater. Us kids used to go to all of the Sci-fi movie matinees. Most all of the Sci-fi movies were in black and white, while this one was special, because it was in color. I think that this is one of the best Sci-Fi movies ever. although, the scariest Sci-Fi movie for me, was "The Thing from another world" 1951. You would never believe that James Arness, from "Gun Smoke" fame could be so scary as the thing! I give War of the Worlds 5 Stars and recommend it to everyone!!!

An absolute classic. Scared me half t' death when I was a kid! Even with the errors in the science of the time (1953) the film holds up extremely well largely due to the fabulous art direction and the ahead-of-its-time special effects. No one has come up with a better looking alien craft on all the years since.

  • The 1897 classic Sci-Fi book, the infamous 1938 radio broadcast, and the 1952 movie all have the same title and theme.

A perennial favorite, WGN use to run the George Pal version every Halloween. The story-line of invading extraterrestrials is as engaging in the 1952 movie as it was in Wells' 1897 book, though with some variations. The SFX in this 1952 Sci-Fi movie, still hold up. I particularly like the floating Manta-ray look of the Martian war machines. Good Halloween double-feature with "Earth vs.The Flying-Saucers, or Howard Hawks' "The Thing From Another World." All go great with Halloween candy and buttered-popcorn.

  • War of the Worlds. We won.

One of the best of the early Science Fiction films. Very well done and great presentations of aliens and their spacecraft.

  • It's so nice to see this masterpiece intact!

For years, this classic 1953 movie was reshown on television, and invariably, the film was edited in order to show more commercials. This was primarily achieved by cutting off the first twelve minutes of the film, in which the basis for the film is beautifully laid out in a monologue by the brilliant Sir Cedric Hardwicke. I've always loved this film, but to see it in its original form was the greatest pleasure. I watched it twice the day I received it, and now I'm waiting for my neighbor to return it so I can watch it some more!! I also enjoyed the voice track on this special edition, in which stars Gene Barry and Ann Robinson point out interesting insights into how the film was shot. From an era when science fiction story quality was often laughable, and special effects became caricatures, this file still holds its own!

One of my favorite movies as a kid. I wanted this for the extras, which are not available when you buy just a streaming digital download.
