Not legal for use in Australia, which is obvious, however does limit use cases. Signal quality is ok, and range seems ok. Nice and lightweight, USB rechargeable which is convenient as well.

Did not use the Baofeng software - open source "CHIRP" software is arguably superior and works perfectly on Linux (Mint). . Unfortunately, the BF-888S cannot be programmed as an Australian CB radio, and has too few channels in any case. The UV-5R can but is twice the price and inappropriate for general use as it is really an Amateur Radio unit as is the BF-888S. Not a concern to me as I have such a licence. . The cost is reasonable - you *could* construct one more cheaply from the readily available components (USB-serial module, leads, plugs) but it is really not worth the trouble.

After using an older usb cable, and having to rollback the driver whenever I wanted to program my UV-5R radios, seeing this cable able to plug in to the usb port, run Chirp, download the contents, all within literally 1 minute was amazing! I already ordered 2 more for spares... Lol No need to install the driver at all. Truly plug & play. (Radio in the photo is not included )

Very small and easy to use. Signal is good and range is also very good. An ideal gift for my grandchildren.
