A highly-praised and widely-respected mechanical watch for good reason.

Watches like this don't come out very often. I can't speak highly enough of the Seiko SKX series, particularly the SKX007J. The design is 22 years old and has stood the test of time. It is slightly dated in appearance, but that is fundamental to its appeal and charm, and what makes it a classic. It's perhaps the perfect tool watch. It's a versatile piece that is appropriate for almost any situation, other than a very formal black tie event. Wearing this watch sends the message that you're knowledgeable about watches and value the history of horology, without taking yourself too seriously or being a watch snob. I'm not the biggest fan of the rubber and jubilee straps they come with, but they aren't bad, and at the very least they're comfortable to me. I choose wear it on an assortment of nylon or leather NATO and zulu straps to give it character and customize it to compliment whatever I'm wearing that day. All subjective style aside, this is a very effective utilitarian watch. The dial is easily legible, the case is heavy-duty and durable, the movement has an adequate power reserve, the lume is very bright albeit a little short-lived, and my individual watch is shockingly accurate in keeping time. My SKX007J is gaining about 4 seconds a day, which is far better precision than I expected at this price. I don't own any really high-end watches so I don't have a lot to compare to, but this is my most accurate mechanical watch by a significant margin. I have a couple of Orients that each run about +15 seconds per day. I also own the smaller cased SKX013K (Malaysian-made version) which I really love as well. My individual 13k model is losing about 20 seconds a day. This is perfectly acceptable to me, but it's nice to have the added accuracy of the 7J, and I would rather my watch run ahead than behind. Both watches use the same 7S26 movement, so I'm not sure if this difference in accuracy is attributed to Malaysian vs. Japanese models, or 007 vs. 013 models. Or maybe it's just pure chance as both of these are within specified tolerances. Either way I thought it's worth mentioning. Bottom line, the SKX007J is high quality, looks great, well balanced in weight, and fits a wide variety of wrist sizes. The case is 42 mm but in my opinion it presents slightly smaller than that. It's the largest watch I own but it doesn't feel like it. The end-to-end wingspan is shorter than most divers at this size so it likely won't overlap small wrists. It is a joy to wear and look at throughout the day. As far as value per dollar I don't know if you can do much better. If you're only going to own one mechanical watch, this is an excellent option. If you're a collector, this is a must-own that will likely get a lot of wrist time. If I could only wear one watch for the rest of my life this would be it. You simply can't go wrong with the SKX007.

  • Top critical review

    Average quality

Looks great, wears comfortable but over priced compared to similar brands like Deep Blue. Lacks important options that should be available in this price range. Bezel spins loose, no manual winding, Still a nice watch though.

  • Good watch

Its a mechanical automatic watch, Diving watch. It stands tons of humidity. I bought it mainly because i need a watch that last . It has to be ware very frequently so stays charged. I have a Seiko kinetic witch is not as expensive as a diving watch . Its a system that i like a lot but the wristbands pins keep breaking because they are not made strong enough. This one seems better. If they make a seiko kinetic with a good wrist band (not necessarily a diving watch or big) i would recomend that system as a tough watch, even better than G Chock. Especially because you dont have to wear it every day for it to stay working. this is the best so far from seiko.

  • Seiko skx007

Watch came with random box but with instruction.Took just over 10 days for delivery. Very acceptable. A common issue with these watches are that the top arrow on the bezel doesn’t line up with the 12 hour 100% from factory. Mine was not an exception, but is about 90% lined up which I’m willing to just accept since i don’t want to deal with exchanging it. I love seikos but this issue really bites. Overall I’m happy with the watch. It’s absolutely beautiful and works like it should mechanically.

  • Another well made and well priced Seiko Product.

Seiko really knocked it out of the park with this one. Too bad they're no longer being produced - the newer PADI variety just seems overpriced. The SKX lacks manual winding and hacking but these are minor inconveniences in the long run.

  • Classic Seiko Divers Watch

I already own a Seiko Turtle but I wanted to add another classic Seiko divers watch to my collection. The SKX fit that bill. This is the Japan version but I’ve owned the Korean versions of Seiko watches and they all seem to be amazing quality for the price.

  • Waiting to see if accuracy settles in

There have been some erratic stops and time jumping forward and backward. I'll give it another week or two to see if it settles in before deciding to return it. It's sad that an iconic watch suffers because it's now produced by the lowest bidder.

  • Very sporty looking watch.

A nice diver's watch. Rigidly built and just about the right size for my wrist.

  • 007

A great watch that wears great on the wrist and is the most modifiable watch in the world with many , many after market upgrades and changes available. Make it what you want. Also keeps excellent time.
