During my research for a previous book called Frontier Forts and Post of the Hudsons Bay Company, I could not help but notice that there were many First Nation communities in close proximity to these sites. I also noticed that many of these communities had churches, most of which were very old and quite unique, architecturally speaking. It was at this point that I started venturing out to various communities compiling historical information and photographing these fascinating structures. The architectural designs and workmanship of the old buildings that no longer stand represented for the most part a legacy of aboriginal carpentry skills and great effort that should never be forgotten.
