Product Information

Director Robert Zemeckis revolutionized the art of animated film in 1998's WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT by dropping cartoon characters into the same frame with flesh-and-blood actors. In THE POLAR EXPRESS, live action and animation have merged seamlessly, resulting in sparkling super-realism. A landmark technique Zemeckis and his Sony Pictures Imageworks team call "Performance Capture" perfectly suits the tenor of this wondrous children's Christmas story by Chris Van Allsburg. A disillusioned little boy, just old enough to doubt the existence of Santa Claus, has the adventure of a lifetime one fateful Christmas Eve. Clad in his pajamas, he climbs aboard a magic train to the North Pole, driven by a kindly train conductor (voiced by Tom Hanks who starred in both of Zemeckis's Academy-Award winning films FORREST GUMP and CASTAWAY). Among myriad jaw-dropping moments, the train plummets brakeless through crystalline mountains in a simulated roller coaster ride. Going off the rails, skidding sideways, and snaking violently across a frozen lake, the train arrives at the North Pole (a vast, glowing city of brick buildings). At that moment, the car carrying the kids detaches and they're sent tumbling down never-ending chutes and slides until they land in the middle of Santa's Workshop.     All Aboard for Christmas Excitement

    Robert Zemeckis' "The Polar Express" is a delightfully entertaining motion-capture adaptation of Chris van Allsburg's award- winning book of the same name. Tom Hanks plays multiple roles, including the Conductor and a ghostly hobo, as he herds a group of rowdy boys and girls to the north pole, aboard a magical train that runs only on Christmas Eve. The film features numerous delightful songs, some original and some classics by Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, et al. I highly recommend this modern Christmas classic for the whole family to enjoy together.

    I purchased 2 DVDs and a CD at the same time, this one did not work. It froze halfway through the movie. Cleaning the disc did not help.

    Lifted up out of the Craziness

    During these unprecedented times, we need Fantasies like this to bring us up out of ourselves. It was beautifully animated. The characters seem so very human that one could identify with their respective emotions. It is wonderful for children, yet mature enough for adults to enjoy, I have seen it many times before I purchased the DVD. I just wanted it for my personal collection. The DVD is of good quality and very inexpensive considering how we are generally overly charged by industries for DVDs in this day and time. It was sent in a very reasonable timeframe, considering how unpredictable things have been lately with trying to buy online. I intend to buy others of what I call: oldies but goodies, for my collection.

    A classic Christmas Movie!!!!!

    This is one of the best animated Christmas movies. There are a few older classics that can match it but for a newer production, it is the best. Used to practice optometry but am now retired due to a stroke but making progress!!! We used to see one of the past presidents from one of the Lansing plants and he would always come in for his appointment in late December because it was his favorite and he knew we would have it playing when he got there. He too is now retired so we have another thing in common :)
