Tetris is one of the most simplistic video games out there, and yet it's survived several different consoles and still remains popular. With the new DS installment, Nintendo has managed to perserve the original game, as well as bring in new versions. The theme revolves around classic Nintendo characters, such as Link, Mario, Samus Aran, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and the guy who has an attatchment to balloons. The characters have their own games, allowing a player to chose from six different game types, and then variations within. As a whole, the game is mainly for puzzle players, but it's fast-paced. Multiplayer modes are also available in WiFi. One down side to the original Tetris game included is that while playing on the bottom screen, the top screen shows Mario running through classic Mario levels, filled with pipes, goombas, and koopas. This can become a slight distraction, but doesn't take too much from the game itself. It's deffinately a good buy, and worth it if you had to trade in your original gameboy game when you bought a DS, like I did. The gameplay stays fresh, and you can never truly "beat it", making it a great addition to any collection for years. Long live Tetris!Read full review
I would place this as excellent if it added more than two multiplayer modes. The first multiplayer mode allows up to 10 DS players to connect using only one cart!!! The mode also allows you to add items which are all based on Mario items (Mushroom will give opponents blocks with rockets on them forcing them done super quick, Banana changes the block configuration on you opponents screen, Lightening makes it so opponents can't change the position of their blocks, Shell to remove blocks from the bottom rows, and a Star to protect you from getting affected by other people's items as well as give you straight blocks for a short period of time). I love the whole Nintendo theme with Zelda, Mario, and DK. The second mode is called push that allows two players (still only using one cart) to play a tug-o-war match. I would like to see more modes for the multiplayer portion but as it is, it's a great game that is addicting as heck with multiple players!!!!Read full review
This was purchased for husband who loves the real Tetris. This is not the real Tetris but a samples of Tetris. One one you have like the real Tetris but you do get to see where the blocks are following. Which to me is cheating but to my husband is much better. To each his own. There are several versions. You can start half way, one fourth, or anywhere up the the lines you want to start which makes it harder. Your choice makes it more difficult to try to get the blocks in before you reach the top...if you can. The only thing I like is you can switch from different games. But it was for my husband who loves the plan Tetris like game which lets you see from the time it starts to drop where it will land as you move the block across the board. Hard core Tetris players will be bored. But this game is excellent for beginners and medium players!Read full review
I have been reading and hearing about Tetris DS from several sources and I enjoy Tetris on other game systems. Therefore, I decided that I wanted the Tetris for the DS. When I began my search I found that you can not obtain the game for the DS readily. I searched high and low for the game and finally found it available on Ebay. I found other copies available but for unbelievable amounts of money that the game just wasn't worth. Now that I have the game I am really enjoying it but I don't see that it is as special as some people have said. I am enjoying it but to say that it is the best of the best is a long stretch, at least to me it is. Ninetendo did add to the game further options of play over the straight Tetris that are very enjoyable such as puzzle, catch, etc. But again, I just can't give it the flowing reviews that I had heard other than to say that I am enjoying the game and don't regret getting it.Read full review
This game, and the amount of copies sold, proves that Tetris is alive and doing very well. The ability to touch the screen and move blocks in the "Touch" mode is a neat and new twist. The missions modes are mixed with some ol' themes from Nes games of years gone by (Zelda, Mario, Metroid). "Catch" has you trying to catch blocks in the middle of the screen and try to make cubes out of the tetris pieces. You can rotate your blocks in the middle of the screen, but you cannot change the falling blocks! Great fun! "Push" has you competing with another player (one on the top of the screen, the other at the bottom) to make lines and "push" the middle line to your opponents end of the screen. This game eats up plenty of spare time! To add to the madness, most of the games are available through wi-fi, so you'll be playing for hours!!Read full review
I love that I have Tetris again. It is my FAVORITE game of all time. I got my DS over a year ago and have bided my time to get the game for a lower price. I really like that it has a lot of different types of games. The only thing I miss from the original is the music...there is no "tetris" music :( It is now old Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong, etc music. I like the addition, but I miss the original.
PURCHASED ITEM BECAUSE I REMEMBERED IT WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT YEARS AGO AND IS STILL A POPLULAR GAME, TRIED TO PRUCHASE IT LOCALLY BUT THE PRICE WAS ABOUT DOULBE AT THE VIDEO GAME STORES,THIS GAME IS MORE CHALENGING AND HAS MANY DIFFERENT WAYS TO PLAY AT ALL SKILL LEVELS WOULD BE A LITTLE BIT BETTER IF IT HAD SOME KNID OF HELP/CLUES AS THE LEVELS GET PROGRESIVELY HARDER, BUT THATS ALL PART OF THE GAME I GUESS
Fun versions of classic Tetris. Always found the the original game fun and easy, a great way to pass time. I find the new modes challenging, but still fun, as I’m not experienced with many video games. And I love the old Nintendo game tie ins.

Welcome to Tetris DS, a puzzle game with a handfull of modes to play, most in which involve differently shaped block clusters falling from the top of the screen. Tetris DS is the descendant of the 1980s game simply known as Tetris. Both are highly addictive, can be challenging, and known for it's great music. In this game, Tetris DS, the music, as well as the colorful visuals are in dedication to nintendo games from the 1980s. While playing the "standard" mode, you'll see classic characters like Mario, Link, Ice climbers, Samus, and Donkey Kong. You'll also hear music from their classic games too. When you first turn on the screen you will see the Single Player, Muliplayer, Wi-Fi, Options, and Records buttons. After selecting single player, you can choose from a total of six different modes of tetris. Standard is the classic gameplay, while touch is a great new twist on tetris gameplay using the Nintendo DS stylus. Anything else included in this game? Yes, wi-fi or, online play. All in all Tetris DS is a great addition to any DS game library. If you're a fan of puzzle games or just old-school games in general, Tetris DS will be a sure-fire win for you.Read full review
After 20 years my ORIGINAL gameboy bit the dust. Least to say I only had the Tetris game that came with it but the best game to have when wanting to pass the time. I finally broke down and bought a Nintendo DS and looked in any local store I could to find the Tetris game that went with the DS sysytem to no avail. I finally looked on eBay and was tickeled to find someone selling it there. I am now pleased that I can resume the days of yesteryear with the best gameboy game that was ever put out. There is nothing wrong with some of the newer games (which I own a few of those also) but there is something about nostalgia that brings back good memories. Anyone wanting to revisit their childhood needs to ad this to their collection.
