A Nikon 5005 was my introduction to Nikon technology, and I've been hooked ever since. I bought my first one in 1994 and I was imeidately in love with it's autofocus capabilities. Due to deteriorating vision, I've had to rely a lot on the autofocus and it's dead-on. Also, the 5005 allows one to be as creative as you like; aperture priority, shutter priority, full manual or full automatic are possible at the flip of a switch. Most of all the 5005 has been reliable and rugged. I've heard of problems with the battery compartment doors falling off, but I've never experienced it. Since I got the 5005, I've gone on to the 8008s, the F4s and the F5. They've got more bells and whistles than the N5005, but it's the same matrix metering and the same quick autofocus that makes Nikon the best. For a person who does not need the armor plated protection (and weight) of the F4 or F5, the N5005 is an excellent choice of film camera. You don't have to fiddle with a lot of dials and buttons if you don't want to, but you can still get great pictures.Read full review
This is the last of the film cameras Nikon made for the amateur that hand all mechanical displays (knobs and dials rather than LCDs). The camera takes very good pictures in the fully automatic mode if you are either using the flash or have strong lighting. A draw back is that it does not give you any feedback as to what shutter speed or F-stop the camera has picked so you have no clue what your depth of field or motion freezing is happening in your picture. Focus is a little slow by today's standards and stinks in low light or if the mirror is dirty/fogged. It does make a fairly loud noise both focusing and advancing the film. It is a Nikon so quality of construction is fairly good. As I have researched, the latch on the film door is plastic and can be broken if not handled with care. The camera performs much the same as the Nikon N4004s and far better than the N4004. These can be purchased very inexpensively and the manual can be found on line. The N4004S manual can be downloaded from the support section of the Nikon website and ess applicable to the function of the N5005.Read full review

easy to use no menu to use and run's on aa batterys and the weight is easy to get used to the model in question isn't the low end like most makers think of it as the older models updated with all of the stuff already on it! and no need for things like a winder or anything like that because it has it already the flash is alright and plus it use most common type of flash it will use some older lens also but with flash only or a light meter
Camera is in nice condition and appears fully functional but have yet to load, shoot and develope a roll of Fuji slide film. That will tell the real story.

The Nikon N5005 is a precedesesor to the Nikon N4004 and is much refined. I really enjoy using it.
