There are some profound reviews of Cave's film One More Time With Feeling, which I urge you to discover. So this is my own short response to my first viewing. It's a film that is without doubt one to watch repeatedly, for the music alone. Essentially about the making of the album Skeleton Tree, with most of the songs already in a concert-ready form, this creative world is then hit with the trauma of loss, fantasy meets reality. The decision to continue this collaboration with film maker Andrew Dominik, has given us an exceptional window into a pause in time, a liminal space between one reality being suddenly replaced by another. Dominik's film is extraordinarily powerful with no hint of sentimentality. I refer of course to the death of Cave's son Arthur during filming. The music of Skeleton Tree dominates, Cave's struggle to adjust to personal loss is palpable, and Cave himself demonstrates his debate with his own creative subconscious. Personally, I held my breathe when watching this film, because I distinctly recall letting it out at the end of Disc 1. then there's Disc 2. The music of Skeleton Tree is brilliant. The additional music essential. 3 short films follow. Read full review
