A Must for Those Who Like Strong Coffee--and Don't Mind Waiting
I bought my first of these makers many, many, many years ago. After many, many, many years of devoted service, it started leaking, which is what happens to all of us. Philips had long since discontinued the model, so I was forced to try other brands. I bought about half a dozen other makers, some of which were on the pricey side, and all made coffee that was laughably weak. Luckily, I found a nos of my old Philips. Wonderful, wonderful, but if you break the carafe, oy! Nearly impossible to find a replacement. I did locate one, in Greece, for $45, and I nearly bought it. Luckily, luckily, I found a whole nos maker for less than the price of the carafe. So, I now have two of these makers, one carafe, and I'm praying I don't break the good carafe. I've never found a carafe by any other company that fits quite right. If you like coffee strong, this is for you. If you use the "strong" setting, it brews slowly, so patience is necessary, but well worth it. Twelve minutes for four cups, which isn't all that long, but which is far longer than the "I want it the day before yesterday" theme of the 21st Century, which replaced the "I want it yesterday" mantra of the 20th Century. Alas, not as good as my previous Senseo
This model only brews 2 different sizes-- 1 and 2 cups-- so I have to select 2 cups and turn it off after about 1.5 cups. Also, the cup height is not adjustable. Finally, there was no instruction booklet. However, its pressure brewing system still makes infinitely better coffee than a Keurig. Try pods fro CoffeeFools. I am happy to have a Senseo Coffee Maker back in my kitchen. :O)
I purchased this Philips Senseo Coffee Maker because the one that I had for 15 years was leaking and there were other issues as well. I had a RED one and would have liked to find another red one but I was still happy to find and settled for the new WHITE coffee maker that was for sale. It seems pretty much like the one I had except that the on/off light is supposed to blink while the water is heating and then it's supposed to stop blinking when the water is hot and ready to "brew". My new coffee maker turns OFF when it stops blinking after the water is heated! It's not supposed to do that. It is supposed to be ready to "brew" when the light is lit continuously. I guess this is a little quirk that my new white coffee maker has. I'm sure I will get used to it. I have found that if I turn it back on immediately after it turns off, it continues to do what it's supposed to do. Broken hinge on cover ( just comes off, leaving tube)
My coffee machine was shipped with a broken hinge on the lid. It is a grey plastic hinge with two small pegs that when inserted correctly allows the coffee pods to be placed.
