This item is in great shape. I have tested it with CDs and a sound system and also with DVDs. I have not tested every feature. As is. Thanks

    Once it works - wow

This player did not read any discs of any type when I received it. After searching for a firmware update that was needed years ago, I found links that were identified as corrupted and unable to download. A chat box popped open and the support was helpful but didn't solve the problem. Move on to You Tube: There are a few excellent repair solutions. I have experience with electronics and machine functions. IF YOU DON'T, DON'T TRY THIS. I dared to unplug the machine, open the cover, and follow the videos. NOT EASY. There is a repair center to contact for Sony. The HDMI hookup did not have sound on my tv. I hooked up the red-blue-green cables. Input on the tv set to composite instead of the alternate HDMI. The player is AWESOME. The technology is 15 years old so don't expect the navigation to be simple. Don't buy it unless you have the remote. Keep a list of discs you put in the 400 slots.

    DISC EXPLORER TERRIBLE ON DVP-CX995

The Disc Explore feature is terrible on this model It does not allow you to use the up or down arrows to stroll for the DVD you are searching for. IT only allows you to use a number input to move around the Disc EXPLORER. If you do not know what slot you loaded it in GOOD LUCK. In my opinion the DVP-CX985 DISC EXPLORE 100% better. The only drawback with the DVP-CX985 is that there is no HDMI output but he compone outputs work fine for me.

  • Great buy with limitations

This is one of the few products left that allows you to put most, if not all of your DVD'S where they can be immediately accessed. A few caveats. Make sure that it has had the firmware updated. When I first put my discs in it read less than half of 180. Second it is better if it comes with a remote. The replacements run 15 to 25, and they do the job, but aren't perfect. Lastly, even after the firmware update it didn't read all my DVD'S, one tv series it didn't read am entire season, but I've got over 150 ready to go. You can either use the internal virtual keyboard or plug in an old pc keyboard which allows you to put the name of the disc in the system. Takes time for those that don't load automatically, but it's worth it.

  • Fun to Use, But a BEAR to Set Up

SONY's "video juke box" has always been a bit of a hassle to set up and use. It can take hours to manually type in disc titles that don't automatically read in - and most of them do NOT. But once you've got it all installed running, it's fun to pull up music, movies or photos on demand. That's were this product shines. I've had one of these since 2006, and when it finally gave up a few weeks ago I immediately replaced it. Glad to have my juke box back - but I'm STILL keying disc titles in manually.

  • Sony DVP-CX995V DVD PLAYER

Like this product , very convenient and excellent on storage , sound and clarity however I wish that it had shuttle capability to automatically play the next disc or program the amount to be played , however I'm pleased and preparing to purchase the blu-ray as well fir my blu-ray collection but overall it's a great product that I would refer to any one who has a media collection and looking for organization and space , Godspeed

  • Awsome CD/DVD multi disc player.

This CD/DVD juke box plays discs just like any other player, except you can load up to 400 CD/DVDs in it to play any disc from the comfort of your armchair (with the original remote). Without the proper remote you have to change discs using the front panel buttons. I have read poor reviews of the system because of a couple little things that bothered some people, but for me they are non issues. I keep a separate Word file log of which discs are in which slot number. Then I just refer to my log sheet to find the title and slot # I need to play the disc. Then I can go directly from, say, slot 24 to slot 275 from my the comfort of my sofa using the proper remote. This Sony carousel has played ALL my home made DVDs no problem. Unit is larger than most audio/video players. The depth of the player could be an issue, at 21 inches, it sticks out a bit from the shelf it sits on. Other than that, I love this machine for it's ability to hold so many CD/DVDs and it has a HDMI out your TV that works great.I would have to be pretty picky to complain about what this machine can not do, when everything it is built to do it does so well.

  • Great concept, but poor execution

The unit is a great concept and definitely needed. But getting to the menu's is so klunky; I think it was written by a programming student. And the menu's themselves are so basic and difficult to get around. Since this was manufactured in 2012, there is no excuse for the basic and ugly menu's. In addition, when you "load" a DVD information, only 1/3 of them automatically load. The others have to be done by hand. AND, you need a PS2 keyboard (seriously?) to do the entry if you don't want to use the remote. I can't believe this sold for $1200 new, because the menu's have been around for decades (ever turned on the movie channel in a hotel) and loading the information should happen as soon as it sees a new DVD. AND, it should get that information from the Internet; not some obscure reading of headers that isn't a standard. Very disappointing Sony...

  • Can't update firmware without original remote

The unit had a remote but not original and HDMI won't work without this update, so you can move to the next chapter but you can't change the disk without getting up out of your chair we had to use the RGB to a receiver to watch our old DVDs with up convert so I recommend purchasing one if they have working original remote only. I wish Sony would make new changers for all us collectors so we would have purchase used equip

  • No internet required. Movies anytime!

although today is all about streaming movies, to me there is nothig better than having a movie on disc to watch at any time. and, you don,t have to pay every time you want to watch. the quality of the picture is 1080i and that quality suits me fine. can,t understand why Sony stopped making them. The DVP995 works flawlessly and the main reason i purchased it is, no more scratched or lost DVDs or CDs. OH yeah, it,s great for music too!

  • Remote does not work

The remote control does not work over the CD player. I wold like to skip a track some times and I don't know how to do it without the remote control either. I will keep this purchase, because it's difficult to find it today brand new. I thank you anyway MS
