Although the rarest of the trio of Contra titles released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), this title is the least fun to play. Although there are several new game developments, like the ability to select players from a pool of candidates, that give a freshness to the title, the game falls short in other areas where the first two games were far superior. Such as the music, controls, and gameplay. Buy this one for it's collectability, and to hold over the heads of your friends; Don't buy it for it's own merit, or you will most likely be dissapointed.
If you can pretend that you’re playing a game similar to Contra, but isn’t, it is a fun game. This game really pushes the NES hardware to its limits, and the lag might bother you. If the was called anything other than Contra, I feel like people would accept it more openly. But when you put that big of a name on a game, it already has a lot to live up to.

This was the third game in the Contra Series. First was Contra, then Super Contra, and then this game, Contra Force. I loved Contra, still do, have beaten it a thousand times, and yet I can still play it. Super Contra I did not get to play until recently, but it is also very fun. both of those games deserve a rating of 5 out of 5. Contra Force, however, is totally awful. I did not even try to beat it. I played the first level, saw how totally slowed down it was, and did not want to even bother trying. Instead of a fast paced shooter, it feels more like you are a turtle shooting bad guys. I would not recommend this game to anyone. If you want fun, purchase Contra or Super Contra. This game is a collectors item because it is rare and hard to find. But it not fun to play. Terrible. Dont waste your money unless you are buying to keep as a collectible.Read full review
This game is much better than people make it be. Sure, the slow down in this game makes it almost unplayable but if you can look past it you'll find a solid game. Contra Force is by no means better than its predecessors on the NES, but it definitely stands out. The ability to swap between characters is a great game mechanic and keeps the game from getting too monotonous and the 'Gradius' style power-up system keeps things interesting. If the game didn't bear the Contra name, people wouldn't judge it so harshly and it wouldn't have the bad reputation it has. *fun fact this game was originally not a Contra game and was bought by Konami cause they they thought they could save it
Great game, came in good condition and working. Contra is a classic NES game with two player action and great side-scrolling and head-on gameplay. A must have for your collection.
