Minidiscs are a great format for music creation, and this model with its usb connection makes a perfect combination with the PC. I would give 5 stars but (my fault) didn't read the description carefully enough as this needs an optical mic, hence not so handy for recording ambient sounds for samples etc. Much higher quality sound reproduction of ripped cd's than mp3 format too...
I can see why Ebay UK has asked me to write a review about the Sony Net MD MZ-N510 MiniDisc Personal Player. I paid about £135.00 for my new Sony MD player several years ago and found the quality first class. My wife started using my Sony MD player this year (2012) and also found the quality of sound far better than her other personal music players. Lots of information about the player can be found on web sites, so I wont go into that, but what I must point out is...I used, and still have Windows XP, and found that system ideal for music transfer. Windows Vista, and Windows 7, which we also have would not. To complete this review...we like the Sony Net MD so much we now have 2 players down stairs, and 2 upstairs.
The unit works as a md player, but the prime purpose was to be able to use with a computer. The software included is 17 years out of date, and this should have been pointed out at the sale.

The product was a added bonus as I only required the blank Mini-Disc in a e-bay sale. I presume it was quite expensive when first bought, however older technology been superceeded by MP3's and alike on more portable devices - phones and ipod type players. Still works fine and with some wear as it must have been used by previous owner. This did not arrive with instructions but within a short priod was able to master most of the basic functions rest will come with trail and error methods.
Excellent machine that takes an ordinary AA rechargeable battery. Wonderful sound quality. Made of good quality materials.

I have two of these units , and both of them are in very very good working condition , recording and playing the sound i ever wanted . No comparition with the mp3 players because there is no match , MD. Always sound loud and clear . And another thing , remeber there recorders are at least 12 years old and in vy good working condition , so this thing can't never apply to mp3 players . So , if you like md , go ahead and buy one !
