My sister used to play these and I had meant to give them a try years ago, but didn't get around to it till recently. Now I have to go around buying up the old ones! Guess that's both the good and the bad of discovering a franchise late. Nice thing is you have tons of content to check out. Not so nice thing is you have to hunt it all down and hook up old systems.

This was a fun addictive game. The down side was that the whole thing just seemed like a small mini game, and you were just waiting for the real game to start. I did enjoy it and it was fun to see just how big you could make your katamari. There is a lot of downloadable content which I think is a cheap thing to do, but it will prolong the life of the game. This game is much better if you play against someone and challenge them. If you plan on playing straight through the game is extremely short, but if you go about finding all of the secret "presents" and "cousins" and try to best your scores you could play it for months.
This game has simple rules....you roll a katamari ball around until you get bigger and bigger by gathering items. You have a set amount of time and a size and certain objects you are supposed to gather (actually quite a challenging game!). It's fun because there are so many levels and there is even Co-Op! (me and my friends played it together and loved it!). However, you can easily become frustrated when you must repeatedly play a level to meet the requirements for sizes and temperatures in the time allotted. But overall this is a game every gamer should own! :D
Anyone who watches you play this game will be jumping for their turn to try. To make this review complete, I need to point out that this game isn't for everyone, but then again no game is. If you want to play a game with a storyline and strategic goals, this isn't the game for you. However, most other people love it. The game starts out with the giant King of the Cosmos telling you his story of how he messed up the stars in the galaxy. Your job is to roll around Earth and pick up earthly items to make katamaris, which turn into stars at the end of a level to put new stars in the sky. If you want a good idea of the game structure, imagine starting off in a giant world and you roll around a piece of chewed gum, picking up small items such as paperclips and coins. The larger your katamari grows, the larger of items you can pick up; the snowball effect. The goal of each level is to get your katamari to the requested size within the time limit. In each successive level, your katamari starts off slightly larger, so that you get a head start and can pick up larger objects. It also has a really catchy soundtrack. Sound like fun? It's a good game to pick up and play anytime, and is appropriate for the whole family. The controls are simple and the overall gameplay is simple, but the later levels do become challenging. I would recommend this game to just about anyone.Read full review
If you played the other katamari games before you may get quickly bored by this one. Unless you go online and find some vs action. The game is essentially the same with added goal of rolling up specific type objects. It is great to roll the ball around for fun for a while. Highly recommend this game for families. Also, for those who played FPS and RTS all the time, this can be a good refresher from the same shooting and micro-ing routines.
This game is a lot of fun if you're in the mood for something lighthearted. Perfect for couples. Not a lot of planning involved. Just roll around and collect stuff! Music and design are soooo Japanese, it's hilarious. Unfortunately, multiplayer is quite difficult to control and single-player mode is short. But it has a lot of replay value.
I love this game even though it's pretty easy to beat. After you're done beating it there are still more things to do. It's pretty tough getting 100 pts on each level so you can always replay each level to see if you can do better. There are so many achievements too and plenty of expansions you can buy. The online play is great too. Even thought there are only 5 different places to battle with others the amount of fun you have playing with others will definitely be worth the game and more. I've always loved all of the Katamari games because they're so quirky and I dig the soundtracks as well. The only thing thats a bit annoying which has been getting better since the 1st game for ps2, is the camera. Otherwise, this is a great game.
I honestly don't know why every review I read about the Katamari line mentions the lousy story line. The story is pointless, but for Katamari *any* story would be pointless. If you are looking for a story-based game then take a pass at the franchise, but if you're looking for a family-friendly yet addictive game, the Katamari line can easily chew a chunk of time from your day. Like the PS/2 game We Love Katamari, Beautiful Katamari for the XBox is too short. But unlike the PS/2 sequel, Beautiful Katamari is not laden down with those goofy specialty levels (just one in Beautiful Katamari). With Beautiful Katamari it's just roll, baby, roll...make the biggest, juiciest katamari possible. Well worth the money and always fun to pass around to friends.
I was reccomended this game (Beautifull Katamari) from a friend, and after seeing it on tv, was a bit skeptical. The artwork and music are VERY different from your normal, platinum hits games. There are a lot of goals, items to collect, and secret stuff to find in this game, which I think is very fun. The music as I stated is very different, but it is soothing at times and upbeat and fun at others. The gameplay is very very addictive. You have to roll a ball that begins to collect things, very small things at first like thumbtacks and boardgame pieces then later in the game bigger things like people and stop signs. Probably even bigger items as the game progresses, I just haven't gotten that far yet. It does take a little getting used to controlling your little ball, but once you get the hang of it Beautifull Katamari is a must have game in my opinion.Read full review
Very fun game and more challenging than I thought! Trying to get 100 percent will be a major challenge for me! Thanks!
