This IS a direct Form, FIT, & Fubction Replacement
This Mfgrs. product is a DIRECT Form, Fit, & Function replacement for the GE GXRTOR External Ice Maker Water Filter. The GE SUPPOSED replacement is ONLY Form & Function replacement. It is NOT FIT replacement. GE screwed up, probably to reduce cost of the 2 small Quick Disconnect fittings on each end.. Fortunately this Mfgr stepped in to make anactual direct replacement. A lingering bad 'plasticky' taste
The instructions say to run water through this filter for 10 minutes. At first I ignored the recommendation and only ran water through it for 1 minute, but the taste of the water that came through the filter was terrible, a volatile plastic-like taste. So I ran a hose from the output to the sink and ran it for 15 minutes straight, and the taste isn't completely gone. It's tolerable now, but still doesn't match the taste of my previous filter. Hopefully as things fill up, the taste will continue to improve.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I saved money by not going to Lowe's but after I bought the fittings not so much.
Old filter had 1/8 pipe connector this one had 1/4 pipe. i had to go buy a couple of brass fittings and let me tell you those have gone up in the last year.
