Ever since the late 1990s, one has really been unable to think about anime without thinking of Dragonball. Mostly because it's airing in America has proven so prolific, it's popularity among anime fans is pretty much the same as it's popularity in Japan. Finally, the series has gotten a release it's deserved. The third boxset of Dragonball Z features the entirety of the Frieza Saga, which basically means all 33 episodes and 6 discs are spent beating the crap out of one guy. Or, rather, watching one guy beat the crap out of everyone until Goku shows up. But that's fine - Frieza's an extremely strong guy. But, can Goku revive from his injuries in time to save his friends? What is Vegeta doing, joining up with the other heroes? And is Frieza really unbeatable? This boxset differs from the previous ones in terms of what's included. Because the Funimation dub was already well under way at this point, those actors who no longer work for the company weren't kept around to re-dub the more painful line readings (leaving us with some awkward moments where Goku talks about 'another dimension,' an edit made for the old dub to avoid mentioning death). Sonny Straight continues redubbing Krillin for the most part, and Chris Sabat continues redubbing Vegeta. However, Sabat doesn't redub Piccolo, Guru or Yamcha, despite also voicing them. It's a rather odd choice, considering the performance for Vegeta beforehand was far better than his job as Guru or Yamcha. Luckily, the remastering and wide screen process has continued to keep things looking fantastic. For the final showdown with Frieza, the new widescreen format winds up making the battle look even more epic - adding to the scope by giving the audience a better view of the continually-collapsing Namek and the literal scope of the fight. Of particular interest is the redone footage where Goku achieves the level of a Super Saiyan. The new coverage looks almost beautiful - and Sean Schemmel's performance as Goku finally hits it's stride there, too. Like last time, the series can be seen in the original Japanese, in the American TV release format, or in English with the Japanese music instead. I personally prefer the TV-release music, as Brian Falkner's music almost seems to fit the series' intense action like a glove. That's not to say the Japanese music is bad, it's just my own preference. Unfortunately, there's a complete lack of extras on these discs - aside from watching more Funimation adverts for things you already saw on the other discs because you can't skip the opening-DVD-ads. 30 bucks MSRP for 33 episodes, all over 6 discs, is a great deal. However, the lowering of the episode count and the complete lack of extras is really starting to bother me. I mean, even a commentary from Sabat and Straight would be appreciated - and they didn't have a problem giving one to Dead Zone... Ah, well. Not as great a release as the first boxset - but infinitely better than the second boxset. Fantastic if you're a DBZ fan, downright enjoyable otherwise.Read full review
This series is a must have for the fans of anime. We know-it-all internet users, have searched about this series on torrent sites and all, and I must admit that one of them was myself. The quality of the dvd boxset is not compared to any available download out there, and it trully worth its money. I really dont know if the remastered is far better than the original, since I haven't seen the original version of the series. The languages are English with Remastered music (alternate to be honest music), English with original japanese musiv, and Japanese language and music. Subtitles unfortunately are available only in English language but the translation comes from the Japanese transcript. So if you put EN language with EN subs, then you don't get the exact words out of it, but its close to the same story. Quality of the Box is superb, and the inside leaflet has the episodes in detail with the characters appeared in every one of them. The scenes on each DvD are many, so you can skip boring parts without loosing any of the action. My verdict? Get it. This and ALL the seasons of Dragonball Z. The only catch is that you need to get all the sets so you can really say that you got the collection.Read full review
how about ive spent over $2,000.00 over the years getting all the boxe sets and what not even back in 2005 when they did the red boxed ones with the exclusive goku figure i have all of those as well as they started on the blue box vegeta one then stopped at only 3 dvds then now there going to remastered the whole series and ony $30.00 per box set thats insane thats how much its cost me for 2 dvds with only 6 episodes but will i buy it even thoe i have every dragonball,z,gt dvd as of now.......you bet you sweet @$$ i am even if i dont open them but this one by far shall be the most wanted one by all its the 1st time the frieza saga was on dvd in a box set if you have ever watched dbz this would be the perfect timing to go buy them i just hate that i didnt wait
Good product, box and booklets were like-new and all discs were virtually scratch free. I was a little disappointed in the number of episodes that came in the season, but thats not much to complain about since the box sets are each broken up equally into 36-10 episodes. The feature to watch in original Japanese audio and music and well as US audio was a nice addition, although I would have liked to have seen a little bit more extras for an entire season of DBZ...like the making of, interviews with the voice cast or something...however overall a very good product, would recommend to any DBZ fan.
This is an excellent box set because you have some options as far as audio. I'm glad they had original Japanese audio because the English dubbing is horrible,(not the voices, but the script). If you use subtitles, you'll notice a lot much difference because the subtitles are a direct translation of the Japanese audio. These are the three audio options. 5.1 English with Japanese audio 5.1 English with American audio Original Japanese Mono The picture quality is great and like the other two, there are a few scenes that weren't shown in cartoon network or edited versions.
DBZ is the greatest series of all time. If you love martial arts or just things that are flat out badass dbz is going to be in your must have. The saiyans are the ultimate embodyment of true raw power. Seaon three continues to pile on the action and multiply the intensity. Goku has fixed the ginyu force once and for all and now all attention is on the dragonballs. Goku has raised his power again from the 20000 area to an immense 180000+ but does he have enough power to take the remaining dragonballs from the tiny but wicked lord frieza? buy it and find out.
We didnt want to pay full price to watch the series we wanted to watch it and then pass it on like others. They came in a lovely package and it made it perfectly. Disks were in excellent condition and we are super excited to watch them. Thank you very much!

My kids made me get season one and now I am hooked. It really is a great cartoon and the characters are interesting to me. I also love the political incorrectness the show contains. We only watch it in the original Japanese version with the subtitles. The american soundtrack is different. I guess because the voices have to match the lip movements. Plus American parents dont like cartoons that use curse words.
The Frieza saga represents the best of one of the most famous anime series in history. Although the series is not without its errors, sometimes the show goes through years in minutes and other times minutes last several episodes. This dvd also represents the best the show has ever looked and features originial uncut material not previously released on dvd in the U.S. Also, the set features the original japanese music. A must have of any avid fan of the series.
They did very good job wrapping the dvd I ordered and they put message “please do not crush” and stamp “Handle with care fragile” thanks so much.
