I've only tested the straight stitch, but it functions as it should. I have ran through the computerized features and all appear to function. One note: I do not like the horizontal spool pin feed system. I found that the thread had a real problem of catching on the edge of the spool, (and yes, I faced the notched end of the spool toward the rear of the machine) if even the slightest burr or imperfection of the spool exists. However, I found this to be only a minor irritation, which was easily fixed, by switching to the included vertical spool pin. For taller spools or cones, I will use an additional spool holder with an independent thread feed system. I do, however, find it a bit annoying that the need for such, could have been all but eliminated, by making the horizontal spool pin pivot up and lock into an upright position. I have read other reviews where people had difficulty with the automatic needle thread system. On the contrary, I found it exceptionally easy and functional. Threading the machine for the first time, I found a few places where mistakes could easily be made. I highly recommend watching a couple of machine specific videos and you won't have any problems. Three features I really appreciate in its design are: (1) the side-slotted presser foot that allows you to pull your top thread, through the side of the foot, to the back of the machine. (2) The slot in the rear of the throat plate that allows you to completely insert your bobbin, close the bobbin cover, and then drag your thread to the rear of the machine, eliminating the need to hold the bobbin thread and top thread, when you begin sewing. (3) The location and ease of use of the thread cutting system. I've had thread cutting systems on many machines where I found myself, "chasing it down" to the point of frustration. This one is very ergonomic and well placed. After further use, I will try to add further details.Read full review

The Singer Confidence 7470 is so easy to use all you have to do is push a button for numerous stiches and other functions. I was looking to upgrade from a little basic Kenmore, that was a good little machine, but I wanted more features. I love the drop in bobbin and automatic needle threader features on this machine. The speed on this machine is also very easy to regulate, you can sew at a snails pace for intricate sewing or zip right up a straight line. You also can push a botton to have the needle stop up or down. I absolutley love this Singer machine. I don't have any negative comments about this machine at this time.

This machine has everything! It runs smoothly and has many hard to find features. It sews like a dream. It is a great value for the price. Highly reecommend this for anyone! Had needle up/down, needle positioning, blind hemming, hemming foot, buttonholes are super easy, makes them just the right size by placing the button on the buttonholer to measure accurately. Has more stitches than will ever use but fun to have. Even has lettering. Many features of a much more expensive machine. Worth every penny! I bought this for my daughter in law whose older Singer had "bit the dust". She gave me a list of features and this one had them all with an exceptionally high rating on several sewing websites. It is even better than in the reviews. I have several high end machines (Bernina, Pfaff) and this one holds it own against the lot. She is really pleased. So am I.Read full review
This is an easy machine for my 7 year old granddaughter to use. She is taking lessons and this is the machine used in her class. She is such a sewing enthusiast and this was sold at such a reasonable price, how could I resist but to purchase for home use? The simplicity of use and "needle down" option are most helpful for her. I'm sure in time, she'll be out sewing me. The variety and quantity of available stitches was also desirable. I also thought I'd purchase this machine as a "back up" to my personal machine. My granddaughter and I both know... this is hers. She loves it!
