Quantum Leap is one of my favorite TV shows. I can't imagine having one season and not having all of them... starting with season 1. Watching other seasons without this one would be like joining in the middle of a converstaion. I had heard that some of the original music was replaced on some of the seasons because of some copyright thing. This made me hesitate to buy, but in the end I chose to buy the series sets anyway. It was the only way to have them. I don't regret buying them and didn't miss the omitted or replaced music. Do some research to make sure I am correct about the music. Others say that region 2 has the original music, so if you have a player that plays region 2 DVD's, you are set. Either way, it is still a great set. Quantum Leap is a daring sci-fi series that depicts the idea of time travel and was successful. It's funny and serious, captivating and clean. In my mind it's the first of its kind to take time travel and make it believable. And the fact that it lasted 5 seasons makes it impressive. More impressive is that it's fun to watch over and over. It seems to me that it lead the way into a whole new kind of TV show. Unique in it’s time. I agree with another review, it's sad that they didn't take the time to acquire the rights to the songs and keep the sets consistent with the original shows. It takes the excellence out of the sets, but they are still very good. I bought all 5 seasons.Read full review
Sam Beckett has a date with destiny. Where will he end up next? Get ready to join Dr. Sam Beckett on the adventure of many lifetimes! Who will he be this time? Mafia hitman, Air Force test pilot, professional boxer. Sam does it all in Season One of the groundbreaking, 5-time Emmy award winning series, "Quantum Leap". Scott Bakula plays Sam Beckett, a time traveler who never knows whose body he is going to "leap" into next, and at what moment in history he may find himself. Sam is joined by a helpful but easily distracted holographic guide, Al (Dean Stockwell), who assists him on his missions and aids Sam in his ultimate goal of returning to his own life in the present. Bonus features include "A Kiss With History: Remembering Quantum Leap", in which series stars Bakula and Stockwell, along with creator Don Bellisario share stories about creating their groundbreaking series. This featurette will take viewers behind the scenes of "Quantum Leap's" first year, including stories about Bakula's extensive and demanding training, Stockwell's wild wardrobe and the fans' invaluable contribution to the show. Episodes include "Genesis Parts 1 & 2", which introduced the series to an entire television audience; "The Color Of Truth", regarded by many as one of the finest examples of this show; and "Play It Again Seymour". What makes this program so unique and very intriguing is that it has an originality all its own, with every episode happening in a different time and place. "Quantum Leap" is more than just great family entertainment; it ranks as one of television's finest productions; and this complete first season shows why.Read full review
I remember seeing and enjoying this series years ago. I bought it now to enjoy with my children who, like me, also love it. Sam Becket, played by Scott Backula (now stars in Enterprise) is a mild mannered quantum physics genius with limited memory of his past before leaping. He has the help of Al, his faithful hologram assistant to help guide him on missions they believe are controlled by God. The series is based on Sam fixing things that once when wrong in personal lives of the people he leaps into. It captured my attention years ago not only because it was a fresh concept of leaping through time, but also because they weren't afraid to address controversial issues but was careful to be factual in content. Unique in this series is the fact that Sam can only leap within his own lifetime (mostly 50's - 70's). Mixing sci-fi with good wholesome morals and values this series makes a great addition to your family library of movies. This show wasn't afraid to promote religion, another plus in my opinion. Something modern day shows seem to purposely stay away from. We need more good wholesome shows like this one that we can enjoy watching with our children. I highly recommend this Dvd series.Read full review
I've always loved Quantum Leap. It's definately on my list of favorite TV shows, probably ranked at two or three. It has everything: "fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles..." (quoted from the Princess Bride). Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell are amazing in it! I must admit, the animation in it isn't quite as good as I remembered when I was younger. I also must say it's a shame the first season is only 9 episodes long (but when you consider each episode is a little under an hour long, that ain't bad!). Then there's the whole futuristic year 2000 in it... for future reference (to any and all movie makers who will never read this) - if you're going futuristic, go BIG! Don't expect flying cars and light up shoes 20-30 years in the future! I'm usually not into sci-fi, but Quantum leap is a classic. It's a great buy, and next time I'm in the market for purchasing TV on DVD, I'll be getting season two.Read full review
I First Noticed Teri Hatcher.... in the Quantum Leap TV Show as the girlfriend of Dr Sam Beckett, (Scott Bakula), in an early 1989 episode. By the time Quantum Leap needed her back for the Donna Eleese role, she had gone on to playing Katherine 'Kiki" Tango in the TV series 'Tango & Cash'. She went on to play Lois Lane in the TV series 'Lois and Clark, the New Adventures of Superman', as pictured to the left. Today we all know her as playing Susan in the hit TV show 'Desperate Housewives' ! I thought her performance in Quantum Leap was excellent, and when the girlfriend was shown again, I was disappointed it was not her playing the role. Teri studied ballet, was a cheerleader with the San Francisco 49ers, among other things, before turning actress. Teri's early reknown was for the Lois & Clark series, but she has also acted in 'Spy Kids', 'Tomorrow Never Dies' - a James Bond film, a recurring role in MacGyver, and several other TV & Film roles! She adds a lot to the current hit series 'Desperate Housewives', but I will never forget first finding her in Quantum Leap. She had the 'Star' quality even then! I also feel that she really did fit into her Lois Lane role ! So there is more than just Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell in this series! It was the supporting guest actors that really helped make this TV show shine! MichaelRead full review
I purchased Quantum Leap because I enjoyed the series so much when it was on Television regularly. It is an excellent program and we can learn so much from each episode. Sam is the main character, a quantum physicist whose experiment sends him into the past to put things right so that he can leap to his next assignment. In each assignment he must figure out what his purpose is so that he can move on. It teaches us that we also must find our purpose in each situation we find ourselves so that we can be aware of how our actions have an effect on the present and on the future. I felt that this series would be great for my family. I want my children to recognize the importance of thinking about what they are doing and why they are doing it. Everything we do and say affects the people around us and if we leave things unsaid that should have been spoken or things undone that should have been completed then we not only change the future for ourselves but also for the people around us. Also in Quantum Leap Sam discovers that little children and sometimes animals can see Him instead of the person he leapt into. This is because young children are uniquely able to see the truth around them.Read full review
This is the best sci-fi to come out of the late eighty's early 90's it follows the experiment that sam becket (scott bakula) started in the new mexico desert. Following a test due to the loss of funding he is transported into time. And has to correct errors in peoples lives and by doing that making the world a little better one small step at a time. This show is great for children it has history, science and adventure. If you never saw it when it was on tv buy season 1. It really is that good and fun
The Quantum Leap series is one of my favorite television shows ever and this show is rare to watch as reruns. So if you yearn to watch Quantum Leap beyond reruns, try getting the entire five season series on DVD! I am starting my collection now with the first season DVD set and it is worth buying! Despite that there are only nine episodes in this set compared to the twenty-one plus episodes made for later seasons, this is the benchmark set for the start of a great television show. There are many bonus extras totaling hours worth of information with the cast and the creator of the series so it is fascinating to watch and learn about to fellow "leapers"! This set sells for over ten dollars used and has sold for beyond twenty dollars in some instances. One big movie retailer sells this set for $27.99, and not even counting shipping and postage! If you are lucky to own this set, it is worth the money paid for it especially for the right price. It will pay forward in both entertainment and investment!Read full review
I love this series now I just have to get the rest of them
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
I started watching Quantum Leap toward the end of the series and then in syndication after the show ended. I always enjoyed the series and thought the concept was very creative. Each story has it's own revelation and makes you feel good at the end. The series only gets better as you watch, but season 1 shows how everything go started and you can see the growth of both Sam and Al. The DVD has each episode and a nice dialogue section with Scott and Dean telling about their experiences. Great set.
