A Photography Guru's How-To Book for Dummies
Standing by the magazine rack at the local news stand, gazing at the cover of Vanity Fair photos of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes with their daughter Suri, ot that provocative picture of Miley Cyrus that aroused so much controversy, you might wonder, how does Annie Leibovitz do it? How does she make it look so easy? If someone wrote "AnnieLeibovitz for Dummies," this could be the book. Leibovitz delivers her version of a workplace how-to guide, and most of the content is engrossing, especially if you are a pop-culture nut. Within "Annie Leibovitz at Work," she retells the story of the photograph of the pregnant nude of Demi Moore that caused such a stir for Vanity Fair. Who knew, before reading the book, that the naked shot was intended only for Moore, and that Leibovitz didn't realize it would make for an iconic cover shot? Or that Mick Jagger personally asked Leibovitz to be the Rolling Stones photographer? Leibovitz talks about her favorite subjects, the people she calls "transformative." Nicole Kidman, "no bad way to photograph her;" Cate Blanchett, "always interesting;" and Johnny Depp. She also talks about people she'd rather not photograph, regardless of their level of achievement, "because they feel awkward": Meryl Streep or Robert DeNiro. But don't get the wrong idea about "Annie Leibovitz at Work," this book will not make you a world-class photographer. As interesting as the content is, there's a reason she's still the go-to photographer for so many glossies. And once you've read the book you'll understand: if it were as easy as pressing a button, we'd all have our pictures on the cover of Vanity Fair.Read full review

It is the smallest of the four and is resting on top ... I will get to it.
I have bought for the second time the same camera, the Mamiya RZ67Pro II film camera that Annie Leivovitz used for most of her work, albeit with a crew and a budget!...unless she still owes B&H her life! LOL I bought four of her books to see more precisely what she did with her own RZ. The work...and the content...and the concept is wonderful for them all. I EVEN have one of her very own inscribed camera backs with her name and studio and #2 on it...pretty exciting...to wonder what images actually passed through this 220 back! I haven't read all of this one, as it is a lot of text and as a pro architect and photographer, totally visually oriented and basically illiterate after years of drinking Michelob at Penn State, LOL, I have been through the other three...WOMEN, ANNIE LEIBOVITZ, AND PHOTOGRAPHS many times... PLEASE BUY EVERY ITEM SHE SELLS, I'VE HIT BOTTOM MYSELF THREE TIMES, AND AM STILL THERE! Love, Al!Read full review

A very compelling history of her as she grew up and learned the ropes of rock photography. Lots of back stories abouit the great and not so great she photographed.
