An external oil cooler on my '57 beetle 'fractured' and almost cost me an engine! The cooler was a tube type similar to add-on transmission coolers I see advertised. My original cooler had a mounting bracket with an electric fan that came on when oil reached a pre-set temperature. It was a couple of inches from the thermostat that the solder joint broke, spraying oil in the car and on the track. This oil cooler is tested to 200psi and one report said that this cooler would keep oil at a moderate operating temperature around 170F. This cooler fit my brackets and by purchasing separate adapters, was an easy repair to my broken cooler.
