I like many waited a very long time for the fourth installment to arrive on book shelves. (okay, it was only five years, short compared to the next book, but I was 23) I actually purchased it in hardcover, as a broke 23 year old, this was a big purchase. I was not disappointed. I loved traveling backwards down the great mother river with Ayla and Jondalar, meeting those we came to like one his travels down river. I have since purchased the whole series in hard cover and have read them over and over. This is one of my favorite series. The passion and heat of this couple still steams my glasses as I read.

Another fascinating book by the author of "Clan of the Cave Bear", "Valley of the Horses", "Mammoth Hunters", etc. Ayla of the Mamutoi, together with Jondalar of the Zelandonii, undertakes an incredible journey across the grasslands of Ice Age Europe. Auel's characters are always fascinating, and once the reader becomes involved in their story, it's just impossible to put this book down. The amazing detail of their daily lives, evident in every one of these beautiful novels, is indicative of the unbelievable amount of research that went into Auel's writing. This book, like all the others in this series, is truly a compelling read. Don't miss out on these books!
I love the Earth's Children series of books by Jean Auel. I had two of them and I recently bought the other three on E-bay. The Plaines of Passage is the fourth in the series. Each one is unique and tells the story of early humans and Neanderthols living at the same time, with a woman named Ayla as the main character. They tell of the discoveries that must really have happened to advance the human population. Each new discovery helped them have a better chance to survive and continue the species. These books are fiction, but I know there is a lot of reality in the stories. If you would like to try these books, start with The Clan of the Cave Bear. It was made into a movie several years ago. I think you will enjoy reading these books.
This is just an excellent continuation of the story of Ayla and Jondalar's lives and adventures in prehistorical times. I have been fascinated from day one with Jean Auels Earth's Children Series and this book is very well written, researched and thought out. I bought this book to replace my first one which is falling apart from being handled so much...

Even though it’s an old copy, it came with the dust jacket intact. It’ll go nicely with the rest of this series I own. Thanks.

This is a great series by Auel. It's a cross between a (fictional) biography and a soap opera. You learn a lot about pre-historic man because Auel has done her research. Very exciting and even romantic, sci-fi/fantasy fans will like it too, because it takes place on an Earth that none of us have ever seen.
