The design of this flat panel cinema display is a double-edged sword. The singular seam at the base makes for a seamless and impressive exterior... however, if you ever decide to embark upon repairing one, be ready for some headaches. Apple built an acrylic stand with crank devices in it to "crank apart" the metal casing without doing damage. Without that device, disassembly will be interesting and you're probably going to damage it... at least a little. In addition, another design flaw is the plastic control panel strips on the side. They respond to touch, but because they're flimsy, they can become cracked and finding replacements is hard (if not expensive). Now... the bottom line is that this is a great little graphics studio monitor, and you can probably find one used for $150-199. For that price, instead of the more than 3x retail original price, you can't beat it... if you're wanting your desktop to be a bit more stylish. Negative - The power brick. I miss the ADC connection back when there was only one cord!! Damn industry standards.Read full review
What a beautiful monitor. Supports keyboard brightness controls, has a nice USB 2.0/FireWire 400 hub, and is overall the nicest monitor to sit on my desk. Colors are vivid and accurate, and the monitor is a good size. The only downfall is that the power brick needs to be close to the computer you are plugging the monitor into.

After having some time to get it all hooked up to my ProMac the screen turn on and has absolute perfect picture as if it was brand new. I’m very pleased with my purchase.

I love This Mac Monitor. The Apple Cinema A1081 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor. We've Used the Same Model At work, for 4 years and think they're fantastic! very inexpensive, and durable. worth the money! these last a long time.

The only thing that I think could have been better would be the power adaptor as it appears to have a connectivity issue (bad contact) with the monitor. Once the contact was made, the monitor has been working fine and no issues. Picture quality is the same as my original monitor

I bought this because I just bought a mac pro and needed a screen. This imac is truly still state of the art. Even though Ihavr been to the apple store and have seen the great thunderbolt models. Still this model compares with that, all new items are an omprovement on the last. That being said the thunderbolt being sleeker and thinner with a higher resolution is certain also with an enormous price tag. If you want similar quality that doesn't fall too short by comparison then this is your imac. The reason I chose a 20" is my deask fits it perfectly, without buying a new desk.

I am basking in the rays of my beautiful 20" apple monitor. I was concerned when I first took it out of the box because it's not your standard monitor wiring. In addition to the standard ac plug, it requires a USB AND a FIREWIRE port! I thought I was just buying a monitor, great, now I'm going to have to buy a hub for all of my peripherals! But, on closer examination I found two glorious firewire and usb ports conveniently located at the back. I love this design. There's space on the stand for my external hard drive to perch. The colors and quality just can't be beat. Using complex design programs is a wonderful experience now that there's space to fit all of my palettes, etc. If you can swing the price, I HIGHLY recommend this monitor. It's amazing what a big difference it makes.
To begin we are Apple fans from the early years and so tend to love the ease of Apple design as a given. It is rare that we find any negatives with Apple form or function. Sometimes when we open a new Apple purchase we oooo and Ah at even the packaging. This screen was researched prior to purchase ( very important) and we knew it had to be a winner from what we were hearing. Well its up and running and being enjoyed for its screen quality as we value where our eyes land for cinematic enjoyment. Yes, Apple delivers here and we both highly recommend as all others are merely straining to catch up.

I love Apple products. Not just because they deliver style or functionality, but because they deliver BOTH! This monitor is an amazing purchase as well, as you can now locate them on eBay for around a $100 price point and they are easy to connect to any Mac computer, as well as any PC product. They are long lasting - I have purchased at least 6 of these over the years and none have stopped working or had any burned out pixels. They are quiet, gorgeous and deliver exceptional value. I have connected this model monitor to MacBookPros, iMacs, Mac Minis, everything. Don't have a Mac computer to connect it to? Use it to stylize your nondescript PC desktop or laptop. On top of looking good, it gives you tons of working space. Set to a high resolution (double check, but mine have 1440x900), you can have two word documents side-by-side. Lots of desktop space for game playing, especially if you have two of these monitors side by side (like I do). These also make excellent monitors for watching television, Netflix streaming or DVDs. I can't say enough good things about this monitor. The only thing I would warn you, is if you're looking to purchase one of these monitors, make sure it comes with the power brick and all the cables. No software or other connectors needed. Bottom line, if you need an external monitor, this is the one. Take my word.Read full review
