I have a CT-80 Velodyne subwoofer. It is not for sale, or my CHT-80 either. I bought the CHT-80, loved it, researched it further, and bought a CT-80 as well for my second sound system. They are the same, and were both used. I think the CHT was built later and the boxes and grills are slightly different, but they sound the same. They sound like smooth thunder and then get out of the way. Sometimes there is just a light low mood sound without a hint of distortion that sounds quite elegant. I imagine it is the exact effect that was intended in the soundtrack. These have eight inch woofers, which you may not think will be deep sounding enough for you. With their huge magnets and refined circuitry you will find out differently. These are just over 39 pounds and can peak at 350 watts. You will never need to get there. Deep clear and undistorted and I believe the eight inch cone allows them to sound tighter and more quickly responsive. I have a ten inch Polk, an eight inch Martin Logan, a Yamaha YST and two other twelve inch subs that I don't use, these Velodynes are just what I want for my Classic Home Theater. Hence the initials CHT and CT. Some have had trouble with hum. My first one hummed when I moved the audio cable a bit. It was a cheap thin one. So I use the thick yellow cable of the group of yellow red green blue composite cable for my audio feed for my subwoofer. I believe the yellow thick one is so well shielded because it is meant to shield out radio magnetic waves. Well, never any hum now. Also I have a good quality Y splitters so I use both inputs on my subs. Probably work just using the one LFE effects jack, but I split my signal and use both. Friendly advice you probably already know, but always observe polarity on speaker connections and turn off you amp when making any speaker connections. This one also, do not use Mute on your remote to mute volume unless you are the only one around. You go away, someone else turns the volume all the way up while it's on mute trying to hear and then notices it is on mute and hits that button. You might have blown speakers then. They would blow on my amp I imagine. You all would never do that though. Bottom line, these eights will do the job in an elegant way for any but the largest home theater system. With my wonderful speakers I don't want booming or thumping messing up my soundfield. If I wanted to go larger it would be Velodyne as well. They know what they are building and Just Do It.Read full review

Bought this as a gift for my son. I did research before the purchase and 99% sounded positive. I knew Velodyne had a good reputation and was a great 'bang for the buck' so I went for it. My son tells me the sub will rattle the walls (29'x 22') living room if he turns it halfway up. So he keeps it at 1/4 volume. For an 8 inch speaker that surprised me! Guess I got what what I paid for. He & his wife love the sub!!!
