Great family DVD About Oddball, the dog who protected "chickens in waistcoats"
This is a heartwarming story about the rescue of the fairy penguins at Warrinbal, Australia, when it was found that a chicken farmer, who owned Oddball, his dog, who protected his chickens from foxes, should be able to protect, "chickens in waistcoats" from the foxes that were decimating the colony of fairy penguins. And, it worked! I first discovered this true story on another program i watch, 'Incredable Journey ', which led me to search for a possible DVD about Oddball, and found it with Shane, who has been so friendly, efficient and helpful. Another Aussie Classic
Wonderfully warm and wacky! Australia is blessed with scenery unlike anywhere else. Coastal views are spectacular. The viewer is in the story too as the pilot flies close and above, a great finish to this movie as credits roll. Loved it so much, watched twice in a row and again next evening. Human action and character portrayal are right on target for humour, pathos, empathy, encouragement and triumph. Creature interaction and involvement is as good a reason as any, to enjoy time spent with family members, watching three generations solving difficulties at home, work, the wider world. The true story once shown on ABC Landline, this movie based on real life, shows the value of wildlife in the scheme of things. Special Features section has The Real Oddball Documentary. From small children to grandparents, I'm grandmother to six, there's laughter, thrills for each age, lessons in kindness, ways to solve problems, awareness of human actions effecting creatures sharing our country, evoking keen willingness to "make it better," despite mistakes seeming too much to alter in a significant way. Stars are undoubtedly the lovable penguins of quaint gait, and a wonderful Maremma dog. Real Middle Island, real town Warrnambool location, skilfully reveal unfolding aspects of the story. Some characters and happenings are comedic exaggerations, hilarity and chaos reign occasionally. There's a range of emotions background music enhances.
