" The Man From Snowy River " is a story that unfolds in the Snowy Mountains of Australia. This place was chosen for it by the great 19th century Australian author Banjo Patterson. The characters are pure Australiana, in many cases warts and all, and are portrayed with sensitivity and perceptiveness. The events are magnificently show-cased by rugged Australia and all are captured with flawless photography. The atmosphere becomes highly charged at times, so the graceful musical score used provides a welcome contrast. For each of these reasons and many more, this movie deserves its enduring place among the great achievements of the 20th century Australian film industry.
